True story this:

 

Roberto Clemente, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, used to cross himself before stepping up to bat. One game he was facing Al Hrabosky, who was known as the Mad Hungarian.

If prayer is between a man and his God, then by all means pray as much, and as often as you feel to do so. But why would you get on your knees in the middle of a football pitch in front of thousands of people, (who haven't come to pray), and millions more on TV and the internet, and start doing it?

 

It seems to be a bit more of a "look at me everyone, I'm praying!!!" moment, than a humble, quiet, reflective moment between a man and his Creator. It would also seem to be no coincidence then, that same player would have a non-regulation nickname on the the back of his shirt, even though none of the other players in the division are allowed to do so.

 

In summary. He is a complete "attention whore", and it's only because he plays for the scum that he can get away with it.
