Suarez was almost mauled by Huth when he played in his debut against Stoke at Anfield. I'd like to see Carroll up against their 'stoneage brutes' in the back with Suarez and Kuyt buzzing around the ankles of Shawcross and the other mammoth.

I suggested the 5 at the back in the Coates thread.

 

I'm not old enough to remember the finer tactical details of Kenny's first stint in charge, but from reading his book over the summer, it seems to be something we used to do when we played against Wimbledon and other such shite.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see it and have Coates start.

Agree, I think the temptation to play long to Carroll is too much for some of our players & it's a pointless tactic against Stoke

I'm desperate for Carroll to shove Capello's words down his fucking throat. Their team might be tall, but they're not comfortable with pace and the ball being moved around quickly.

As for hoofing from the backline? Carra only does that when he gets closed down by teams that press. Can anyone see Jones and Crouch chasing our defenders down? I can't see it, personally.
