Souness

1st time to start a thread but felt it worthy.

He is on Goals on Sunday at the moment. He initially spoke superbly about how the club was run and the great times he had when playing and how he is still a Liverpool supporter.

He then went on to explain his events about the feature in the rag on the anniversary. He said whenever it's brought up that noone feels worse than him, that it hurts and it's something he has to live with.

He also went on to say that he got out of hospital the day before the cup final in '92, and travelled alone in taxis and by plane to the hotel near London. He said the writing was on the wall then as people at the club were pulling away from him even then.

A good and honest insight into a former hero of mine. Hard to forget the bad days with him but very easy to remember the very very good times.

Personally I was relieved by most things he said. He didn't answer those claims that he knew more than he said at the time about that rag, but he couldn't have been more fulsome in expressing his regret, apologising for the hurt, and reiterating his love for and allegiance to the club and the fans. Some will still slate him but I was pleased he went on and said what he did.

I had a decent enough chat with him once and I brought that up. He genuinly regrets it massively. He said to me it's the think he regrets most in his career.

I thought he worded it a bit badly today though. He made it sound like if it went out the day before instead of on the 15th of April that it would have been ok, whereas I know that he just massively regrets the entire eposide.

Was an interesting interview today. He got to explain an awful lot. And also got to confirm that bootroom myth that he had it knocked down when it was nothing to do with him at all.

There was a very touching radio interview with him a while ago, when he admitted his heart problems had changed him, how he gets very emotional these days and how he's scared of not living to see his kids grow up. It's very strange to hear such a terrifyingly strong and aggressive player now sound so vulnerable, but I just wish the man well. The best midfielder we've had.

Has Graeme Souness attended the Hillsborough Memorial Services since he was sacked as manager?

To be fair Stevie, he probably thinks he would become the story & a bit of a sideshow with all that has happened.

Maybe he should approach the 2 Hillsborough organisations about their thoughts.

Exactly what I was thinking. Probably better if he didn't go. He, like so many others, can pay their respects in other ways.

Delighted the thread has not descended into the usual, can't forgive him, he wrecked the bootroom, the club and as one fella said once, did more than anyone else to knock us off our perch. Maybe the united feeling around the club has calmed us all.

Cracking player, shit manager. He knows he blew his chance to be manager long term too which must hurt.

Regarding the article, Im prepared to cut him some slack as I dont know the full facts of the deal, what his state of mind was after the operation and finding a new woman again.

He's apologised for it. Lots of people rightly want an apology from the rag. Souness has apologised many times but that's not good enough for some people and they refuse to accept it.

They are entitled to feel that way but, I dont understand how someone can want an apology from the rag yet when Souness gives and continues to give his, it is rejected.

Anyway, he still sticks up for us whenever he's on tv.

Phenomenal player who put steel and class into our midfield.

A captain, leader, amazing moustache wearer.

People make mistakes, some bigger than others, but what he did on the field for us shouldn't be forgotten nor the memory of it diluted by any misguided or foolish actions since.

And how we would love him in our team now.

Our greatest ever midfielder. If he was around today then he'd cost more then Ronaldo.

I would make a case for him being the greatest midfielder of all time. Keane, Viera, Gerrard, Alonso, Xavi all rolled into one awesome machine - so the younger generation who never saw him play in his pomp can see what he had to offer. The man was never bullied and you could give him the ball in the tightest situation and you knew it would not be lost.

Monumental skipper and some of the stuff you here about his time as captain and player is legendary. I think his regret is genuine but forgiveness is very hard and I guess it is down to each and every individual to decide where they stand on this.
