With a 10-day break, the first game of the season sees us at home for the first time in 7 years, against the Arse. Will Torres play? Will Cole make his mark? Will the new look signings impress us? It's time to hit the ground running.

AGENDA:

League Game 1/38: v Arsenal (h)

KO: 15:00 GMT/16:00 Local 15 August

Host Broadcaster: BSKYB

Web: Streams

If omens are anything to go by, we also played them at home in Kenny's first game in charge and won it, and we know the rewards that season. We start the home programme as we aim to finish it, with games against both North London teams.

Good luck Redmen.

I don't think Torres will play, can't see him being ready for Sunday after having an injury and not participating in any pre-season games. If we sign Crouch then Torres can be eased in gently as opposed to the usual rushing of him in when he's only 75% fit.

With injuries and WC I believe the lineup will look like this..

GJ Cara Greek Aurelio

Cole Gerrard Lucas Javo

Aqua

Ngog

Subs:

Subs:

Cavalieri

Agger (injured?)

Kuyt

1-1 Draw Cole and Nasri

BTW does anyone know if Fabregas and Robben Van Pussy are starting this game?

pLaY PaChEcO, KeLy n SuSo. Or something.

Think Cesc will be back, but I think he's in a similar boat to Nando. Get Gerrard back alongside Lucas and play Cole off Torres. Maxi right and Jovanovic left. Kuyt and Aquilani on the bench.

If not, sack Roy.

Bit previous this thread, but can't complain too much about being excited.

Be interesting to see if Roy sticks with the 4-2-3-1 we've been playing in the pre-season, and also which of our returning players will get picked. Will Torres be fit? Will Kuyt come in for Maxi or maybe N'Gog? Will Mascherano get the nod if he hasn't gone to Inter (looking less likely by the day) or will Lucas partner Gerrard in midfield. Who will play left back?

Hope not:

3 friendlies: 0 goals, 2 defeats.

That speaks for itself.

Can you not read or something?

Negged.

Read something. Not a game thread imo.

We played arsenal at home first game of the season around 10 years ago, they were at the time premiership champions. It finished 0-0 but I don't see it finishing that way this time. Problem is I have not got a clue what the score will be. Ok I'll guess 2-2.

Talking to my son (19) he was insistent last night that Torres is fit, I just don't see him starting so if true the best we can hope is that he is on the bench. Cole while excellent in the Europa will be up against a decent side, as will Jovanovic, so here's hoping for a continuation.

I think we have three perfect games coming up, three really different tests. The so called best footballing team in the perm, the mercenaries away and then a team we should thrash at Anfield. Be interesting to see how we handle each and a good early assessment of Roy and the squad.

No way will cole play at right midfield. He'll be in hole.

Wenger said that fabregas and van persie won't play against us as they won't be ready in time(or did he say won't start...can't remember).

Game finished 0-0 in 1998, it was Game 2 of the season, having being away to Southampton the week before.

Bloody hell 12 years ago. I was convinced it was our first game of the season, judas announced he had signed a new contract. But first game at Anfield that season anyway.

Ngog to start upfront for me. He's impressed enough in pre-season to warrant being given a chance. Throw him in at the deep end and who knows what might happen? Gerrard slightly deeper with Cole off the striker. Jova and Maxi on the wings. Not sure what is up with our centrebacks injury wise but probably Carra and Agger. Glo and Glass on either side. I think we can win this one, Arsenal are looking quite shit in the pre-season friendlies. Apart from all that, I'd like to see Patches get a few minutes.

Prediction : 3-1. Ngog, Gerrard, Cole, Chamakh.
