Obama's Inauguration

BBC has been quality tonight, they got this republican bloke on and they have pissed him off so much, he basically said at one point that Rajesh Merchandani puts the BBC in a bad light because he got a fact wrong and argued with the fella.

He then turns to the guy next to him and says

"Hell, we are just about to have a black president, we aint gonna be racist any more, right?"

John Bolton. See the main thread for lots of people calling him for the cunt he is.

Re my previous past, blacks overwhelmingly vote Democrat, so I don't know what the BBC were on about there.

Whilst I think it's harsh to say almost every black voter, it has been annoying celebrity wise to see a lot of hip hop artists for example who clearly have never gave a shit about politics before are now urging people to vote for their 'homie' Obama. It's the same as regional basis I guess, but I'd rather he win on merit. If he was a white democrat with the exact same policies, no one would think he was that special really.

quite an ignorant view, "proper" hip hop artists always reference politics in their songs.

I got to see Jay Z for free in Miami in october for a barak obama rally and you realise how many of his old lyrics are really politicized.

I'm a little bit worn out by the whole US08 thing, but I'm glad that Obama has won such a convincing victory. I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of the US and more importantly from our perspective its influence outside its own borders.

Whilst Obama does face accusations of inexperience, I would say that is a good thing as hopefully it will mean he has not been overly ingrained with the vested interests and prejudices of his predecessor, as far as that is possible. I'm also hoping we have a more rounded president, less inwardly focussed and insular and more appreciative of his obligations as one of the most powerful men on earth to broker peace and stability through building relationships, compromise, tolerance of other cultures and dialogue.

I just hope the american people give him time and latitude. It's one thing voting for change, it's another having to swallow a pill you didn't foresee to get that change. This is a man who's honeymoon period is going to be over very quickly.

I'm really happy that pricks like Bush, Cheney and Rice are losing control, and we won't have to put up with smug New American Century twats like Perle and Edelman advancing the Zionist case through the Republican party. Happy as I am to see Obama being elected I can't see him making any great changes; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will continue (the arms industry is far too powerful to allow peace to break out) while the economy is as controlled and as pleasant to deal with as wild man's shite.

I don't see Obama being able to do a great deal about health and welfare, at least not in the short term, and the downturn in employment will be impossible to redress until the economy revives. He has a bastard of a job facing him and he needs to be adventurous in his choices to fix things up. The problem is that he is no socialist and his natural political inclinations will mean that he will operate within the economic and social parameters of past administrations. So it will be 'different arsehole, same old shit' for the American people. The fact that he is black suggests that there is some advance in people's thinking. That's welcome......but the nature of capitalism is what really needs to change. I don't think Obama has the will to make that particular change. Good luck to the guy, though, I hope he does well.

On the button there. It is too easy to be cynical about Obama being in the hands of big industry paymasters, even if it is a different set of paymasters. That's because it's true. The Jewish cause is if anything even more pervasive in Democratic politics, and while it may not be as overtly aggressive as the Zionist henchmen in the Republican party, sheer weight of numbers and influence will mean that the policy against Palestinians in the middle east is very unlikely to change noticeably. As you say, the US will still be involved in two wars by the end of Obama's term.

The fact that he's got where he has is no doubt a victory of sorts, but he hasn't done it by challenging the US political principles that have held sway for the past 60 years.

It's not an ignorant view. I used to listen to a lot of hip hop when I was younger, and it's almost entirely made up of misogynistic, violent or racist shite. I include 'proper' hip hop artists in that too.

I, for one, welcome our new black overlords.

Pissed myself.

Somene needs to setup an Alan Sex Facebook group ASAP.

As far as black voting goes, as Neil G says they're predominantly Democrat, anyone who's seen The Wire or Fahrenheit 911 will know that.

Where Obama has done well though is to pick up the Spanish vote, especially in Florida, latinos often vote Republican and have a more conservative outlook from what I've seen and read.

...and Latinos are very religious(which is another reason why they vote Republican, usually).

Seems as if I underestimated the USA. The yanks have proven me wrong and credit to them. I'm very much surprised by this turn of events.

Stupid man. I told you months ago that Obama would sweep up. Not exactly awake yet are you wakey wakey, rise and shine, sun is shining the weather is sweet yeah. A 'turn of events' indeed. Idiot.
