Is Chelsea’s bubble about to burst?

Recommended Posts

As an aside to the original point, and while this wasn’t exactly a surprise to me, it’s Saddam-esque how our government had no issues with where this heinous fucking human shitsack of a moral vacuum’s funds came from, until it became politically expedient to do so.

They’ve happily stood by for 15 years and let a Russian mobster launder his image, along with his money, and not only grab the reflected respectability of owning a prominent football club and being treated like a foreign dignitary, but act as catalyst for how rancid particularly the financial side of English football has now become.

He’s then carried on his fucking ruthless, corrupt practices at Chelsea, such as buying up young players like shares and loaning them all over Europe on an industrial scale, and the shenanigans with clubs supposedly paying double and triple the worth of players they’re selling, right as FFP apparently became a thing, without impediment.

Worst of all was listening to the likes of Motson getting misty-eyed and reverential whenever footage of him clapping at Chelsea goals like a brain-damaged seal was broadcast. Indeed, John, how truly life-affirming it is to watch a man who inhaled the birth-rights of millions and millions of his own countrymen so he can have yachts in different colours, and still saw fit to charge them to have a piss, being marginally happy that John Terry has powerfully headed a goal in. Which, incidentally, is itself the sporting equivalent of someone hitting a marble with a fucking tennis racquet, such is the grotesqueness of his cubically massive, mongoloid head.

The only consolation is not just the stuff CT has mentioned re Visa issues, but that you just implicitly know, cold, dead-eyed shark that he is, he’ll have no compunction whatsoever about leaving Chelsea for dead should they cease to be of use to him/it becomes most convenient to do so.

I'd have preferred Spurs to have missed out. The cycle with Chelsea has been the same ever since Abramovich took over. Spend millions of his robber baron money, win big, dial back the spending as they claim they are going to be self-sustaining, lose big, spend millions of his robber baron money . . . he has a strong incentive to maintain Chelsea's standing, i.e. he's less likely to accidentally brutally stab himself in the stomach while shaving if he is the owner of a high profile football club, so he's not likely to turn off the taps any time soon. They aren't dependent on CL money to stay competitive. Spurs, on the other hand, can only defy gravity for so long. A year or two of not being on the CL gravy train and that fancy monument of a ground they've built could well be their tomb.

I think it's officially known as his 'fod'.

I'd applaud this, only my colleagues might look at me funny if I'm seen clapping at the monitor.

Don’t know about yourself but I for one am absolutely sick of this Dr Nowt gobshite coming into all the threads and basically ending them with his first post.

that's the risk you take when someone with more than 3 brain cells is allowed on the site.

I think there is more than a grain of truth in the theory that life is getting more uncomfortable for Putin's lackeys to launder money here and shoving dosh through the cunts at the Bridge is a less feasible now, You have to bear in mind Abramovich money is going to be in some part Putins and the UK is not flavour of the month in Moscow.

I'm not sure.  There are a few influential members in the cabinet who have interests in maintaining the rather disgraceful status quo re Russia (and China), because they personally stand to gain financially.  It could just be lip service until the media spotlight finds  somewhere else to focus.

I agree , I don't for one moment think this government is really committed to cleaning up dirty money flowing through London. A bit of noise for show but Putin is flexing his muscles and I doubt he likes the fact one of his cash conduits is being fucked about by UK immigration,

Chelsea aren't even a very good club to target to buy off him, not in terms of value for money at least.

I mean, if there was an Abu Dhabi group wanting to buy a club in the PL, and Chelsea were on the market, a savvy advisor would tell them to swerve it.

They've had a go at being a 'big club', they've bought their way to the top table, remained there for a good 15 years, and yet nothing has stuck. The popularity has remained static, and now probably a lot less than 5 years ago, it's probably regressing alarmingly.

They've hidden horrible losses with a set of dodgy of sponsorship deals for years, and they are way wide of the mark in establishing any sort of 'brand' or niche to build from for a wider market.

If Abramovich leaves, and the stadium thing sounds very much like it's the case, its over.

After the initial enjoyment of reading of them potentially imploding I actually can’t see it happening in the grand fashion we want it to. It’s more likely that Abramovich is just posturing. He’s been around for ages and he will have put a lot of time and money into that new stadium already which suggests he was and probably still is thinking of hanging around for a long time. The UK’s stance on his Visa will be posturing in itself and I doubt it will last. Money talks at the end of the day and he’s got a lot of it.

I think the most we can hope for is that he actually does want the club to fund itself in the long run because even if it turned into a club that’s our size. Self funding means you can’t just blow teams out of the water like they have done over the years and horde all the best young players.

The reaction I usually get to saying this is that they haven’t blown anyone out of the water for a while. It’s right to a certain extent but the main reason for that is because of how much money City and United have been spending. They still have had the pulling power to get players to go there ahead of us. A club being run to make a profit wouldn’t be able to do that.

It all feels a bit hollow to me, unless they suddenly announce Zidane and intend to spend £300m in one summer to bring some of the Madrid players with him.

That said, they aren't in the CL, so what would be the point in ZZ.

Part of the Ruskies plan to make Chelsea self sufficient is putting them in a 60000 seater stadium. That is now parked indefinitely. I do not think the visa issue should lightly dismissed. The Government knows dirty Russian money is coming into the country especially London. Ambramovics new palace would be built on the stuff. Chelsea are not going to implode tomorrow. But missing out on the CL for a few seasons and Ambramovic disappearing to Israel may just be the start of dwindling cash going into the club.

the Government has been aware of this for decades.  That's why I'm not convinced this is anything more than posturing on both sides, while they remain in cahoots.
