Pink Floyd

Recommended Posts

Just spent the last 2 hours listening to Dark Side Of The Moon and then Meddle, what better way to spend a lazy sunny afternoon?

There's a strong argument that Pink Floyd are the greatest band ever; what's your favourite album by them? Why? Single, song, moment?

Love the Floyd, me. Not keen on them post Waters though.

Favourite album is probably Meddle, favourite tracks off that are Fearless, A Pillow of Winds and Echoes. Prefer the version of One of These Days off Live at Pompeii.

Live at Pompeii, DSOTM and Meddle were the soundtrack to my early drug experiments. Good times spent shroomed/stoned/tripping with Pink Floyd providing the aural soundscape. Between them and The Doors, we were sorted. Good times.

I swear I only listened to Animals yesterday for the first time in ages whilst doing some work in the garden!

It's hard to argue against how good they were(are). I guess greatest band ever very much depends on what type of music a man likes.

Dark Side and Wish You Were Here are my favourite albums. I think they peaked around that era. The Wall is very clearly a work of art with some magical moments, but there's also some lesser quality stuff on it. As you might expect from a double album.

The Final Cut is a heap of shite. The Division Bell bores me to tears.

My favourite ever track is Shine on you crazy diamond. That track has everything IMO. It's the most complete sonic journey ever put to tape.

One thing that did strike me yesterday is Gilmour's solos. They get a bit "samey" as the years go by. But that's just me noticing rather than being critical. Still a genius. Saw him in Madison Square garden a couple of years back. Probably the best gig I've been at in terms of musicianship and sound. Unreal.

Meddle is a brilliant album. Probably my favourite and then The Wall for me. People always surprised to hear someone rate The Wall higher then a lot of their other album but I just love it from start to finish.

Remember years ago when I was a kid, me and my brother shared a bedroom and my old fella brought in an old tape player and introduced us both to Floyd. He put Atom Heart Mother on and then left the room. Remember me and my brother in our beds shitting ourselves haha. Heavy album for a 10

And 13 year old.

I think Dark Side as an album is the best album experience you can have. WYWH is also pretty much a perfect album, not as keen on The Wall but still some amazing songs. Bands like the Floyd, The Doors, Cream and Led Zep are like old friends you can go back anytime and they're just as great as ever.

One of these Days live at Pompeii is awesome. Don’t want to sound like an old man but they don’t make ‘em like that anymore. Like someone said above, these bands like Floyd, The Doors, Les Zep etc... it’s highly likely we’ll never see anything like that again

My Brother introduced me to Meddle. He’d borrowed it off a mate at Helsby Grammer School. I loved the fact that apart from the music itself which was interesting because it was so ‘different’ - we also had the Kop in stereo in the lounge.

DSOTM, WYWH & Animals just completely blew me away. Music only - I hadn’t been introduced to Weed, but that all changed when The Wall came out.

I was living in Sydney by that time, and many evenings were spent listening to that album with a couple of mates on a brand new Technics system (Acoustic Research speakers) completely blotto on Queensland ‘Head’ ( at that time , the most potent dope on the planet, in my own opinion).

I’d just bought my first car - a white 1962 Beetle, and I painted flowers all over it, and grew my hair down to my waist - it was longer than Gilmours! Glory days.

By the way, me and Dave share the same first name and birthday - 6th March, but he’s ten yrs older.

Moved up to the loft and into listening position no.1, flat on my back on my favourite sofa; Animals is on and currently midway through my favourite song from it, Pigs (3 different ones).

Am I wrong?

Dogs. By a hairs width. Sublime album ‘Animals’ but the production has always annoyed me. Was it ever re-mixed?
