PC vs MAC?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Any of you have strong thoughts on which is the better?

I want a machine that my kids can game on, but I can also video-edit. As I record the bulk of things on my iPhone, I assume that the MAC will have a stronger set of apps to play with?

My brother is adamant that I need a Solid State Drive (SSD), and at least 16GB RAM, and a decent graphics card. This pushes, from what I can tell, the price into the high-end.

Stress.

The Mac is a better machine for music and video editing imo - it's native editing programs (GarageBand and iMovie) are more than you need to begin with and will get you far beyond that.  Their pro software for both is better too.  Games - not all the big games get ported to the Mac, but there are plenty on the Mac App Store.  You can also run Windows on the Mac should the urge take you.  The Mac o/s is better than Windows 10, and has been since time immemorial.  The sting is in the price.  Mac is usually more expensive, and SSD is cripplingly expensive.

I use Windows machines for work - out of necessity - but at home, I would always use a Mac. Check out prices and game availability.

Bit annoying the games bit, because the kids would want things like Fortnite, and so would I, or PUBG, or whatever iteration comes out in the future.

A lot of my friends are gaming online in PC communities, and I'm only on XBOX, which is great, but feel I'm missing out.

What is the situation with regards graphics cards in MACs?

Fortnite defo has a Mac version - my son plays it, and Player Unknown can be played via GeForce Now.

I run both the latest version of Mac and Windows on PC hardware.

Can't be arsed with the faff.  The reason I use a Mac is that I don't want to be fucking about with drivers and manually updating shiteware every couple of days.  The computer's a tool, not a hobby.

You don't need all of your storage to be solid state, but it makes a big difference if you get one for your OS.  Especially startup times.

Was just thinking the same. If you're using an SSD for a few apps/games then you can as far as I know just put those on to the SSD (along with the OS) and have all of your other stuff still on a hard drive that you can access from the SSD. I've not got one myself but am starting to get more into PC gaming so have been reading/bookmarking the instructions on how to add one if I need to in the near future.

If you do it this way you're probably saving a fair amount of money if you try something like a 500gb one for around £100 (if you get a cheaper one/refurbished.)
