He’s going to play 5 at the back with Kyle Walker as one of the centre halves. It doesn’t really matter who else he picks or what he does because that decision is so braindead it’s comical. They will beat the part timers in the group and then be poor against Belgium. He will stick with the formation and they will be out against the first decent team they meet whether it’s in the 2nd round or beyond.

It shouldn’t be that way. Getting through the group stages shouldn’t be classed as good when the group contains Panama and Tunisia. It should all be relative. This nonsense about targeting getting to certain stages by the suits picking the manager is the typical shite that they come out with to measure success and failure. We should be saying we want you to beat every side you are better than and trying to get passed the ones you aren’t. If you meet Spain in the second round and get beat by an offside goal after battering them then I’m sorry but that’s not worse than going out in the quarter to a poor team after beating shite to get through.

When Southgate came in he seemed to be a breath of fresh air. He dealt with the Rooney problem when nobody thought he had the balls to. He give players like Loftus cheek and Gomez a go over more experiences players. For some annoying reason though England seem incapable of hiring a manager to just do the right thing. Pick the best team in a formation they are all comfortable with, with the players playing in their positions. He’s got too big for his boots.

Out of nowhere he’s now decided to play Walker, an attacking full back who’s always had question marks over his defending and was at fault in the last tournament, at centre back to play a worse full back in Trippier at right wing back so that he can play a formation that no fucking cunt in the squad plays.

Nearly every team in this league now plays 433 in some guise or another but Southgate wants to play 352. So not only is he going to play full backs at centre back and centre backs in a 3 at the back they aren’t used to he will be playing it in front of keeper (Pickford or Butland because I guarantee you he won’t be picking Pope) who doesn’t play in front of a 3 and will be a problem in itself. Players all over the pitch are going to be wasted. You just know he’s going to pick sterling up front with Kane and play Young as the other wing back. The whole thing is set up to be a typical England car crash.

England aren't very good, chief. Personally think he's doing the right thing going defensive. At least they'll avoid a 4-1 reverse against a Germany or something that way.

Southgate was a failure as a club manager yet now he's manager of England. Just typical incompetence from the FA on show again.

Disagree, Hades, our best young players are attacking players so we need to harness this and not play with fear. Why would we want to go defensive against 2 lowly-ranked countries & a Belgium side who shit themselves against Wales in their last tournament game ?

If it was up to me...

3–4–2-1

Pickford

Dier

Walker

Maguire

Trippier

Young

Hendo

Winks

Sterling

Alli

Kane

I suspect Lingard will start ahead of Alli, Jones to come in for Winks (who won’t go) and Dier to be moved forward alongside Hendo.

Pickford

Walker Cahill Stones Rose

Henderson

Alli Lingard

Sterling Kane Rashford

If i had to go 3 at the back:

Pickford

Cahill Stones Jones

Walker Henderson Dier Rose

Alli Sterling

Kane

The 3 at the back is just shite. Neither jones or Cahill have pace enough to play on the outside. Walker has the pace but is retarded defensively. Sterling’s best position is out wide. Whenever he plays behind the striker he’s garbage. Southgate is going to play that and get beat by the first decent team they play.

You’re 4 at the back is what they should play maybe swapping Alli for Lallana or dier.

.

Nearly all international teams aren’t very good. Player for player England are in the top 10 easily. People get sucked into this England are shite mentality. In reality all of the first team are playing in the most competitive demanding league in the world. The problem is always the manager not having the bottle or intelligence to pick the right players. The same thing appears to be happening again here.
