This was exactly why every Red I know was dreading this game. It’s bad enough any time we have to go there but this one had “let down” written all over it. It seemed like everyone was tipping us to win and somehow we were even favourites with the bookies.

Why? The game was at Old Trafford, United were above us in the table and we haven’t been able to lay a glove on Mourinho since he went there. Of course the bookies are only reacting to where the money is being placed, which tells me there are an awful lot of people who haven’t been paying attention. Fools and their money are easily parted.

Of course we were capable of going there and winning, but I think most of us feared there was a good chance that it would play out exactly like it did. For us to have any chance of winning the game we needed to score first, so when we gifted them an early goal that they barely had to work for, we were in trouble.

To then do virtually the exact same thing again (seconds after Van Dijk fluffed a fucking sitter at the other end) was unforgivable and that sealed our fate. Coming back from two goals down to a Mourinho team? At Old Trafford? Not going to happen.

The only surprising thing to me based on how we played was that we managed to get one back, but even that was a total fluke. If you're reading this hoping for some sort of pick me up 'we go again' type rallying cry then you may as well stop reading now. I can't do it. I'm not in the mood. I take no positives from this at all as I thought it was abject and demoralising.

It means nothing in terms of the bigger picture and this result shouldn't affect anything between now and the end of the season. It doesn't make us any worse a team than we were before and if anything it might actually help if it knocks a little of the cockiness out of us. We're good but maybe not as good as we sometimes think we are.

The reason I'm so down about it is because it's THEM, and it's HIM. I'm sick of seeing us play Mourinho sides and look nothing like our usual selves. Part of that is credit to him and what he does, but I also feel like there's a mental block on our part. We play right into his hands. Every fucking time.

The way I see it, we didn’t deserve anything from the game. It doesn’t matter what United did or didn’t do and whether you think they deserved anything, I'm just saying that from a Liverpool perspective we got exactly what we fucking deserved - nothing.

If you give away shitty goals like we did and you create fuck all at the other end, I don’t care how much possession you have or how it may look like you’re on top, you don’t deserve anything. Maybe I’m being harsh and in a few days I’ll calm down and soften my stance, but right now I’m just pissed off and hugely disappointed with how we played, especially because we had to know what to expect. Yet we weren’t prepared for it. We got beaten by a couple of alehouse balls up the middle from the goalkeeper.

It’s not altogether surprising though, The warning signs were there all week as we seemed a little too chesty in the build up and I hate that because it usually leads to a massive reality check.

Spot fucking on. There was a spell in that 2nd half were we seemed to be getting a bit of joy in getting behind there right back yet instead of our players attacking the near post / 6 yard box, they were drifting out to the edge of the box. Brainless

Spot on, Dave. We did not deserve to win this match. I think you focused too little on the insane choice from Klopp to leave Henderson out. He is in good form and one of the few who has the aggression and  mentality to tacle a match like this. And what did he try to achieve by putting Gini on for Trent when we were chasing a goal?

The thing about width and changing the game is spot on.  I've banged on in the past about Salah and Mane needing to swap over when we are defending a lead, so as to give us outlets and stop us running into traffic, but we need to do it occasionally when we are chasing a game too - just mix things up. Mane was superb off the right last season and Salah was getting nothing on the right, so just swap them over FFS, even if it's just for ten minutes.

Really offered fuck all in attack that day. I’ve been watching sine season reviews from around that time and it’s easy to forget how good god, collymore and co were going forward, especially collymore.

I think we went on an unbeaten run for about 4-5 months beginning in the December, where Fowler and Collymore were on fire up front, and McManaman looked dangerous every time he got on the ball. We smashed the Mancs and Arsenal, went on a run to the Cup Final, and beat Newcastle in that epic first 4-3 game. We showed nothing in the final itself which is why it is only remembered for those white suits.

I said on Twitter we should have worn the orange kit. Why we'd play United in a strip that evokes one of our most toothless defeats is a mystery, and I don't want to hear about colour clashes when City and Chelsea both played in blue last week.

I think it's one of those ridiculous 'must wear the away kit a minimum number of times' contractual things that all clubs seem to have these days. Our first choice away kit in the CL is the orange one. In domestic games it's the white and green but because nearly every team we'd need to use our away kit for basically has a combination of red and white, we've had to go with the orange more frequently because the white would clash, so we've only used it about 3 times all season.

The last time we wore a green-and-white quartered kit against them, it was in the 1996 Cup Final. We were timid and a shadow of that season's team in that game too.

Rob Jones should still have blocked Cantonas shot on the line instead of swerving out the way. I blame Evans for that display though. Fowler has scored 2 goals against them at old trafford that season but as you say he sent the team out in the cup final with a lets not get beat attitude instead of lets go and win it.

Saturdays result was just shit made shittier by Carraghers disgraceful antics on the motorway. Too many of our players shoot their mouths off at the wrong time. I was always taught you do your talking on the pitch and if you are daft enough to talk billy big bollocks do it after you have won a title.

Our record at Old Trafford for the last 20 odd years really must be appalling. We had a little run under Houllier where we seemed to do well there and the spectacular 4-1 and 3-0 wins under Benitez and Rodgers, but other than those games it always just seems like we completely forget how to play football when we go there. Time after time I've just found myself wondering what the hell has happened to some of our players when they step out onto their pitch..

Anyway it's out of the way now. Hopefully that will be it for this season. Agree that I'd rather have anyone other than them in the Champions League. Maybe Sevilla will take away the worry of drawing them by knocking them out tomorrow night. Can't really see it though. Every other result went against us this weekend so it seems to be shaping up to be one of those weeks where nothing good happens.

I'd take em in Europe. Not because that will be particularly easy but any tie will be tricky and we  had enough of the play on sated to think, with an overdue break or two, we would thrive.

Yes, Moaninho did a number on us but if Virgil had made it 1 each it might have been different. The first goal was poor defending, notably by Trent, but the second was a tad unfortunate. Of the 4 penalty shouts Schwarzer on Goals on Sunday would have given 2, Kammy 3. The shithouse ref gave none.

No guarantees it would be any different on another night but were fundamentally better than them and there is a good chance we'd grab a couple at their place next time.

And I wanna see that fat, bald twat in front of us with his 10 year old son squirm a bit. Knobhead.

Crikey. Does that mean I have to suffer us going in 3 down at half time then in the second half see Bobby head in Stevies goal Gini score Smicers pop from outside the box and Salah miss Alonsos pen before firing the follow up into the roof of the net. But we are still not finished because someone has to hit Shevchenkos shot at Karius who really has no idea like Jerzy how he kept it out.

Did anybody see the Dermot Gallacher piece on SSN where he dismissed all 3 penalty shouts & suggested 2 ( Salah & Mane ) could have been fouls against Utd players. He also said that Valencias arm was 'tight enough  to his side ' to be given the benefit of the doubt even as the pictures on screen showed a gap of about a foot between arm & side.

Did he also say but if they had been against Liverpool all 3 of them were very good shouts and I would have given every one.

To be fair Gallacher was inept as a ref and a prick with his refs summary on tv.
