iPad - Recommend an older version

I know pretty much next to nothing about Apple products, but my dad has always been a big fan. Anyway, his understanding for techie stuff has pretty much disintegrated and so I have been charged with sourcing and buying an iPad for him on, probably on eBay. We don't need the last new overpriced one, so will probably go back 1-4 iterations depending on the drop off in performance and if Apple no longer support OS' on older version or any other consideration I haven't thought of (highly probable). So please recommend a version and why it's worth getting him...

Oh I suppose you will want to know what he'll be using it for - Netflix and Prime watching, about 300 music apps, Facebook, iTunes and Facetime would be the main things I'd imagine, shouldn't need too much storage. As for budget, I reckon we can push to £250 if something is really worth it, just checking iPad air 2 on ebay looks to be starting at about £200 second hand....

We've got an iPad 2, had it about 5 years now but it's quite slow for browsing now

I followed this guide, and also turned off some of the keyboard options on my mini. About 200% more responsive. Might help, mate.
