Summer 2018 Transfer Thread

I don’t know. Klopp went big on the ox and gini who hardly had stellar reputations who both had prem experience and we didn’t really need numbers in those positions.

I’d rather £35 - 50 on him than a £100m on the American Januzaj at Dortmund that people have a semi on for.

Oxlade Chamberlain had 200 top level games under his belt and was the subject of a bigger bid by Chelsea. Gini Wijnaldum had 300 and had been a Dutch International since 2011 where he has had dozens of games. Hardly in the same bracket, or even close.

As for your review of Pulisic... I'll just give that one a swerve.

You’re not disproving my point here about ox and gini. They could have played 1000 games before we bought them and they’d have still been what they were.

As for Pulisic, I’ve seen enough of the hipsters overhyped players over the years to know my shit from shinola so I’m quite happy sticking with my opinions high success rate in this department.

I’d be shocked if Klopp was going to spend 40-50m on a kid who has never played at the top level and then use him as back-up for Robbo. It’d be ridiculous.

He wouldn't be brought in as a back up to Robbo. He'd be brought in as the most talented English player in his age group, with two seasons of experience under his belt.

Yes, but the person I was responding to didn't say that.

So what was I saying then that got you all upset?

Was it the bit where I said he’s good enough to provide cover without pressure?

Was it the bit where I said he’d could have loads of time to develop with better players and a manager like Klopp to support him?

I wouldn't mind a cheeky punt on Adama Traore. Still the only player we've ever had to double mark under Klopp.

I remember seeing a vid of him when he was first linked to us whilst still at Barca, and he did not celebrate a single goal scored by a team mate, which marked him down as a bit of a dick to me. And in our current squad, not only is celebrating a goal with the team a prerequisite, if you are an attacker you also need to participate/replicate/adapt your team mates celebration routines.

He's also really shit at everything but dribbling.

All upset? Pull yourself together, you're a grown man. I'm not upset at anything, I moderately disagree with something you said on the internet. I covered my view, which is that I don't think he will pay massive amounts this summer for somebody to cover Robbo and Mane. That seems to be all it takes for you to go into condescending wanker mode.

I just stopped responding because you typed the sentence 'they’d have still been what they were'. It's such inane drivel that I just couldn't muster enough desire to respond to it.

I talked Sessegnon up for last summer, but he would have been a lot cheaper then, I think the numbers being talked about are putting too much premium on the value of his potential, but also, I don't think he will go for the numbers being talked about, so we'll see.

There a few good youngsters about who I like but would not really get game time with us, so would be open to buying now with a loan back to their club, maybe even a 2 year loan (if from Championship the 2nd year might be dependent on them getting promoted), and with the offer of a 2nd loan player from us. These young kids need playing time to develop, and the clubs they are at want to keep them, so I think it meets in the middle and might get deals over the line and at better prices.

Sessegnon is an interesting shout. Doing very good things at a young age. I liked the 3-5-2 formation on the previous page too, though I’d tweak it to get Gomez as one of the three.

Pulisic is a very good player, but the price he would cost might not be worth it. He’s young and has already done quite a lot at a high level for his age. The American marketing side of this potential transfer cannot be overlooked.

Lemar looked good for France, and looked great last season, but with half the Monaco side having left I wouldn’t set too much store on this season. It might work to our advantage as the price could have come down.

I’m more chilled than ever about our potential signings. I’m confident we will sign good players and I’m confident the manager will know what he wants to do with them in the side he is building.

It's all gone a bit Ousmane Dembele for Sessegnon this year.

I remember when we went in for Dembele in January from Rennes, but they decided to keep him. Then he went on a huge run between then and the summer and he had a choice between us and Dortmund that summer (and obviously went there).

That was the time when he could have been had for good value. But then last summer when he left for £95m to Barca it was a case of them getting what they paid for but there was no value there.

Similarly Sessegnon at £15m would have been good value, a case of spotting something in a player before everyone else did and his price went up to or above his worth. Sessegnon now, for anything above £35m and even in today's inflated market you're not really getting any value there. He looks a good player with potential to become a great one but for the kinds of prices they're talking about you can probably get someone who's already near-great and you have a lot more of a sample size.

It’s clear we’re not going to get on, so I’ll throw you on ignore. I’ve no idea who the fuck you think you are, but I think you’re a thick cunt with absolutely nothing interesting to say.
