Router and VPN

I have a BT HUB. I am looking to get a router so that my VPN can work at router level and hence all devices in my house would look as if they are somewhere else. This will prevent me needing VPN on each device. It would also mean that the internet browser on my smart TV thinks that it is somewhere else.

This would let me watch football etc on the smart TV browser from services like Sportsmania.

Any recommendations for such a router?

What about this one?

Get one that you can flash with DD-WRT or by one pre-configured.

The other option is to buy a VPN router such as this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pre-Configured-Multi-Country-Router-White-Blue/dp/B017W43M4M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1515156886&sr=8-2&keywords=vpn+router

..which you then plug into your existing router and you connect all your devices to it. This one comes with a month free sub to ipvanish.

  • 4 months later...

Spain have finally realised Betfred exists and I can no longer use the site.

It's a complete ballache setting up Spanish accounts with the verification processes, etc.

So...I would like to pretend to be in the UK. I know fuck all about this stuff, but am under the impression I need a VPN.

Er, what do I have to do?

I think a VPN would work, I used to use HideMyAss was about £6 a month.

You can set a location such as Manchester, London etc.

There’s a free one available on both Android and iOS called TurboVPN. Try that out first and see if it does what you need it to do before thinking about paying for a better one.

If you’re only using it for betting sites you can switch it on and off as and when.

Downloaded TurboVPN.

Gone on Betfred, still recognises I'm not in the UK.

What am I doing wrong? I haven't set a location anywhere (can I with this?).

My entire knowledge of VPN’s is just from using this free one for a couple of weeks before I switched up my IPTV.

There should be a globe icon in the top right corner allowing you to choose which country you’re pretending to be in.

You won’t be charged for it, no. You will be for other ones which presumably are better. Someone with more knowledge/experience than me will have to explain how and why they’re better.

I am pretty sure that the free ones are quite easily traced due to everyone using the same servers where as the paid ones are less common and linkable. May be wrong but am sure some nerd told me that once.

I second this too. VPNs are often a pain due to servers moving about constantly to stay ahead of the authorities. Sometimes it will say you are in the UK but its being diverted through Abu Dhabi is some other foreign country. The clue is often when the google homepage is in Arabic.
