Rafa wanting Gareth Barry to replace Xabi Alonso. What the fuck was the great man thinking?

He'd be great in goal. He's as tall as a house.

Seen a documentary about him years ago, it was ace. Him and his mate went to a curry house. The waiter brought the menu over and he looked at it and just said “yeah.”

They were wheeling his scran over on trolleys and he was steaming through it when his mate started welling up and telling him that he was killing himself with food. Then he wiped his eyes and said “now hurry up and finish your curry, you fat bastard.”

Think he’s dead now.

Leg.

Class>Form

So - he played for us for 5 seasons, not four. The one season where you might suggest he was out of form we had signed him up for 5 years that very summer - then he was injured early on and struggled to regain fitness til well into the new year.

He was never bad.

In fact, he could turn up tomorrow and improve our midfield.

I hate to break it to you but we weren't trying to win La Liga Best Midfielder award.  This was about ending the title drought and Gaz Baz was one of the best in the business.

The whole episode was/is overblown I feel. It didn't really change much. Xabi would still in all likelihood have left the following season once Real came in for him anyway, just as Arbeloa did. If anything, even though he was not in the same class as Xabi, in the longer run we would probably have been better off had Barry signed. Sure, we would have missed out on Xabi's best season for the club (which ended up being a trophyless one anyway) but we wouldn't also have had to live through the years of Aquilani and Poulsen.

Heh - good TK back to rep tomorrow.

Which two seasons was he mediocre? He played 5, not 4 ( in at least two he was stellar)-  so he won a CL and an FA Cup, integral to both of those first two years - scored like three times from within our own fuckin half fer chrissakes  and carried the side his first season during the QF/SF while injured.

So are we, I mean you, saying he was a less than good two out of those 5?
