Having the telly on when people visit

Do people still just pop round on the off-chance these days? What with mobiles, texts, etc I thought that was a thing of the past. No one comes to our house without contacting beforehand, and therefore gaining implicit permission

My birds mum lives over the road and in a lot of ways she's like this woman.

Only fatter, uglier, more Geordie and without the underlying kind heart and well meaning spirit of Raymond's ma.

Actually the MiL constantly pops round since the baby. But given that she spends her time here looking after the kid, cleaning or delivering food, I don't really consider her a visitor anymore - more like unpaid help

I've always done it for background noise but the Mrs thinks it's rude, thoughts?

Personally I've never just seen a telly as something you turn on to watch a particular show and then turn off, it is omnipresent, even when there's nothing on.

Just like when Secsh is out at work - I'm with Mrs. Secsh.

It's ruder than ever now, because whatever you were hoping to watch when people come round, you can watch later anyway.

You want background noise?  Put some music on.
