I'd go with Gerrard. It depends who it's for though. The wider footballing fraternity say we live in the past. Gerrard brings the quartet up to date, and he is one of the very best players we've ever had.

On the other hand, if it's an 'in house' sort of thing for Liverpool fans only, I'd probably go for Billy Liddell. When I first became a fan as a nipper, there were still some real old timers who could remember Billy Liddell, and the consensus from them seemed to be that he was the best there was.

Me too , i remember me Dad telling me to look at Billy Liddell getting out of a car at Anfield on match day around 1968ish , also listening to older Evertonians saying they would go to Anfield when Everton where away to watch him , so he would have to be considered but for me i can't decide between Fagan or Moran, although i could name a few more.

Ronnie was more the rock itself than the face carved on it. Man.

However much everyone else thinks of him, he surely wouldn't himself be comfortable with such an accolade. It would feel a bit of an oxymoron given how he always sought to play down his own role. The fans will always know how vital he was to the club and how he was often the power behind the throne, but he appeared to be no frontman by choice.

From what I've read anyway...far be it from me to presume anything on anyone's behalf, let alone such a club icon!

Fagan for me, in any case.

The whole point of the original Mount Rushmore is to celebrate those who built the United States. So an LFC Rushmore should commemorate those who built the club into the behemoth it became. The likes of Gerrard and Rafa shouldn't even be considered. Joe Fagan is an excellent choice. If you were thinking of a(nother) player, Liddell is the only choice that makes real sense.

But the term is used in a sports sense in the US to mean the greatest ever, which is what Dave is going for here.

And how many of the American "sporting Mount Rushmores" feature people whose sporting successes were in the 21st century?

Cases rested.

Well the NBA probably has LeBron James. The NFL you could make a strong argument for Tom Brady. So, yeah. Not rested. Didn't know you were a US sports fan.

No one because their careers aren't over yet.

It'd be Jordan, Gretzky, Ali, Ruth.
