Klopp won't sign a purely defensive midfielder. Since he has been i cant think of a legit link to a defensive midfielder.

 

Thats why i think a player like VVD is so important. He can play,good in the air,good pace and plays on the front foot. He is ideal for the way we play. We will never be a Spurs or Chelsea conceding 30-35 goals but if we can stop the brain dead mostakes Lovren,Moreno, the keepers etc have been making we will get the extra points needed to put up a challenge while still playing the fast,attacking football we do

I agree - and I don't view Keita as purely a DM.

 

But he would have a massive impact on our midfield, would strengthen us in an attacking sense as well as defensively.

 

VVD would not have that kind of impact, as much as I rate him and want us to sign him too.

If VVD can offer the Carra/Staam/Terry type of leadership at the back, plus more of a defensive threat in the air, he might well have a massive impact. If we can add tough to break down, hard to score against and resilience to our decent, face flowing attack, we could be in for a wild ride.

Henderson and Can are more competent in their position than Lovren and Klavan. An injury to Matip and we're up the creek again. A centre half is essential, and hopefully it's Van Dijk.

This is where my own view is slightly conflicted. Like you say, I think signing a CB is absolutely essential but a CM less so but still desirable. However, I'd rather sign Keita + a different CB than Van Dijk + a different CM because I think Keita looks a much better signing than Van Dijk in isolation. Keita looks like he could be a transformational player for us whereas Van Dijk just seems to be a very good centre back, plus there are more question marks over him and his price for me.

That's pretty much how I see it too. For me the 2 most important positions to fill were another top forward (Salah) and a CB. I think we have enough midfielders of decent quality to get by if we needed to, but as you say Keita could be a transformational player (I've not seen him play, but from his stats and the clips I've seen, he seems pretty unique), and it is those special players that can really make the difference.
