Having a favourite Clattenburg memory is like having a favourite pineapple memory, or plastic bag memory.

You shouldn't have one.

We pay money to watch entertainment in the shape of a football match.  All he does is run around amongst millionaire superstars.  He isn't actually one of them.

He's the head of the referees in Saudi Arabia, and still refs a few games over there. He was covering a cup game that had gone into extra time locked at 1-1 when the call to prayer could be heard outside the stadium. Clattenburg blew his whistle to stop the game for a few minutes. He's being praised by fans and media alike for showing such respect to the call for prayer.

Mark Clattenburg: Referee stops play for call to prayer in Saudi Arabia

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg stopped a Saudi Arabia cup match apparently out of respect for the Muslim call to prayer - and has earned widespread praise from football fans in the country.

Clattenburg was officiating a match in Saudi Arabia between Al Feiha and Al-Fateh on Wednesday when the Adhan sounded around the King Salman Sport City Stadium from nearby mosques.

The game was into the fifth minute of extra time when he halted the action with the teams level at 1-1.

When the match resumed, Al Feiha scored their second goal in the 118th minute to reach the quarter-finals.

On a clip viewable on social media there is a round of applause for the decision and people have posted their admiration for Clattenburg's actions.

That derby with the Hibbert red, Lucas on for Gerrard, the Neville handball, Dirk's flying challenge and last minute penalty winner was just over 10 years ago now!
