Employment rights

My son in law has just been sent home from his minimum wage job at Domino's to shave off his beard as they do not allow pizza delivery drivers to sport facial hair on valentines night.

My auld feller spent his life fighting for basic rights for working people but bit by bit they are being eroded and people are being treated like shite. When did we allow ourselves to be so downtrodden again? We as a nation seem to be sleepwalking back to Victorian times and it's doing my head in (as an old fella) that nobody seems to be bothered!

How do we get people to actually fight back today?

Tell them he's Sikh and isn't allowed to cut his hair.

If they insist on their rule he's being discriminated against.

That was my suggestion but when he said it they reckon it's in the contract for all the time and can be enforced at any time! My point is though, years ago wherever you worked everybody would be straight out the door at the mere suggestion of such shite but now people just accept it!

The media seem to have brainwashed the kids into thinking that gaining any form of of employment is an achievement and you should be grateful to have it.

Very few people actually get signed contracts now. I think that simply agreeing to start work after an interview counts as a binding agreement or contract, not certain though. Having worked a couple of years in a food retail and production supply factory and having a tache at the time,a facial snood was considered necessary, dont these still exist?

If he was making the pizzas and it was a whopper of a beard then they could say it was un hygienic and a beard snood wouldn't cover it (health and safety enforce this rule that if you aren't clean shaven you need to wear a snood).

They may have a policy that they don't allow delivery drivers to be cleaned shaven or not have long beards as it may come across as un hygienic.if he has agreed to this then he won't have much choice but to shave or get a new job.

Employee handbook, written code of conduct, uniform/appearance policy.

Loads of documents supplementary to an actual contract can still form contractual terms in an employment contract.

Okay, so it should be easy to point out the relevant paragraph(s) as I originally asked... right?
