Shitter with the timing. Despite all the criticism Lovren was very good 2nd half of the season, but I think he needs to build up a run of games to hit his stride, which we can't really afford right now

Hopefully this injury will accelerate the need to sign defensive reinforcements in January as clearly Matip is not going to leave Adam Lallana on his own for very long.

The 21-year-old defender would be the next in line but he's been hampered by an Achilles problem this season. He hasn't featured for Liverpool Under-23s since going off at half-time in the mini derby at Goodison last month.

Masterson was the better of the two but Philips had a very good pre season when masterson was injured. Masterson is only back in the last few weeks.

 

At the level we are at, it's very hard to be a young player coming in. If we could blood either or both in the coming weeks in the cup or if we were doing well in a league game, that might be the best thing, as there would be slightly less pressure. United in the league is a different animal, although it could be the making of them.

I'd be resting VVD at least against Newcastle. They will sit in deep. Let Fabinho slot in there for the game. Read he has played there before so would make sense if non of the kids are ready

I'd like to see a proper replay of the incident, as it occurred right on the final whistle, so the moment was lost in amongst the crowd noise, celebrating etc. 

 

At first glance it looked pretty nasty and there wasn't much he could do to protect himself, so it's harsh bemoaning his injury record for one such as this.

I was listening to the TAW podcast on the way home just before, they raised quite an interesting question... does Matip make his teammates nervous? They were all also in agreement that Matip is fourth choice when everyone is fit, which is hard to argue against...

Not much in it between him and Lovren although obviously they bring different things to the table. Don't ever recall Matip getting as forward as much in previous seasons though, but that could be that I wasnt paying attention.

He's a good squad CB. But like with Lovren, unless everybody else is absolutely herculean, you won't win the league or Champions League with him regularly playing.

 

The making his teammates nervous thing is ridiculous though. He's nowhere near shite or mistake-prone enough for that. I'd say if other people are nervous playing around him they need to look in the mirror.
