Openbox v8s

Interested in the response to this. If I can get a satellite dish cheap enough I might take the plunge.

I think you need to buy a "gift", basically a subscription to a service that provides you with channel lists etc. They're often sold in 12 and 24 months packs, so you don't pay a monthly fee, all upfront. Ebay has loads. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, this is the basic info I have picked up from looking at them.

Are there any versions of this type of thing with an EPG? Hope I'm not hijacking the thread.

Yep. Just buy a gift. I know someone here in Ireland that pays €30 for a year for a gift that covers 4 boxes.

Basically he runs the cable from his satellite dish into your v8. Best to use Tp links rather than wifi. That's all you need. A box, gift, TP link, satellite dish.

Just bought one today ,should have it in 2 days. Few lads at work have them and reckon they are the dogs nuts. €216 with a 2 year "gift" for all the channels, sports, movies etc.

I was using an android minix5 for sports but found streams just getting worse the past while.

Arrived last Friday and have to say it's excellent. Full Sky listing of all entertainment channels, doc's, kids, sports ,movies and adult. The skin is the same as Sky and records and pauses live tv same as the Sky + box.

Connected up the same as the Sky box with the two dish cables. You have to have an internet connection also. The box updates at 4.30am which only takes a few seconds. Picture is excellent. If your internet goes down you will lose your reception ,guessing the internet is decoding the Sky signals coming in from the dish.

That's the finish of Sky bills for a while.

No HD though is there.

We had one but it was a SkyBox. It didnt have the ability to record which was required considering i work 12 hour shifts at werkends and nights.

In the end i just decided to pay for sky again.

The internet is providing the decryption that card normally does hence why they are called card shares.

There is a box somewhere that is having its decryption sent to your box to uncode your signal.

Sky added an extra piece of security to the HD channels which prevents you from getting the HD channels.

It hasnt been cracked yet and it is unlikely to as the decryption is reliant on a unique number on your box such as mac code as well as the card.

It is possible that sky will at some point use the same security for all its channels and dodgy sky boxes will go the same way as dodgy cable boxes when Nagra 3 was rolled out.

I'm gonna pick up a zgemma. What kind of outlay am I looking at would you say? Seen prices between £80 and £140.

That's sort of the price range for them. Cheaper could mean it's some chancer, could be more downtime and less support.

Do you know anyone who has an openbox or zgemma? If they have one and have no problems, just go with whoever provided theirs.

People say there's loads advertising on fb now. Could be a good place to find someone reliable.

Where'd you get yours Chris, and how are you getting on with it? Any issues with service?
