Hopkins Says He Accepted Golovkin Terms, Rips Stevenson

By Edward Chaykovsky

51-year-old living legend Bernard Hopkins (55-7-2, 32 KOs) is looking for a major fight and went to the social networks to reveal that he accepted a catch-weight showdown with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

Golovkin returns on April 23rd in an IBF mandatory defense against Dominic Wade at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Hopkins has been inactive since losing a twelve round decision to Sergey Kovalev in their light heavyweight unification in November of 2014.

Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, told BoxingScene.com that Hopkins would only become an option if champions Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders were unavailable.

Golovkin's return in the fall is tentative against the winner of the May 7th bout between Canelo and Amir Khan. The WBC has ordered the Canelo-Khan winner to reach a deal with Golovkin, should he win in April with Wade.

Hopkins then took shots at WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, claiming the Canadian star avoid the possibility of fighting him and instead will elect to fight Andrzej Fonfara in a rematch in May or June.

Stevenson's promoter, Yvon Michel of GYM, told reporters in Canada that Hopkins was never under consideration for Stevenson's next fight.

"Let's talk!!! I'm 51 had a great career. I want to fight one more time soon before I shut it down!!! I don't turn down any fights. I'm old school fighter. I fought Krusher Kovalev, he's a great strong tough fighter!!! He's a great champ and friend," Hopkins stated.

"[There] was talk about me and Gennady Golovkin!! I would've came down and he would've came up. I did accept the fight. Now this Adonis Stevenson isn't a real champ!! I said I'd fight him in Canada. He don't want to fight me!!! He wants to rematch a guy he beat.

Still don't know why Froch v Hopkins never happened, would of been perfect for them both to retire on in Vegas.

Watched Quigg talking about his school days, said maths (believe it or not) was his favourite subject so he studied really hard for one particular test, when he got the results back there was a red x through everyone of his answers. Pissed myself at that, when he's left on his own to talk he comes out with some beauties.

Then 30 seconds later said he never tried at all in school. He's a funny lad.

Joseph Parker v Carlos Takam is happening.

The winner will then go on to face the winner of Joshua v Martin.

Good step up for Parker and it'll be interesting to see how he does. His opponents have been worse than AJ's so this is a big step up all things considering. His speed and power could cause Takam lots of problems, he just needs to make sure he is defensively sound against him. Will be a good fight, though.

Joe Gallagher tries to act like he doesn't get involved in everything but he is the worst for it. Yeah, Shane Mcguigan has had a few digs at them and made comments but Gallagher acts like he doesn't bite back when he just can't help himself.

Says that it's about the fighters but deep down he wants it to be about him and in them press conference tour things they had, he couldn't control himself without saying little digs.

Todays press conference should be a good one!

As with all these Pay Per Views on Sky, they do a fantastic job of building it up into genuine 50/50 fight. I'm a big fan of Frampton, prob my favourite British fighter. Quigg has improved a lot, however, when i watched the Martinez fight again the finish whilst emphatic wasnt as impressive as i remember. There was a lot of wailing in his punches and he was pretty open to the counter. Martinez was taking most of the shots on arms and gloves and got sloppy. I cant see Frampton getting caught like that. I dont think he will be there long enough for Quigg to tee off and use his size and power.

That said, i was convinced Wlad would decapitate Fury so go big on Quigg if you have any spare money.

Oh and as far as Gallagher goes, he comes across as a right insecure cunt. He was on about Oliver Harrison in the build up to Smith and Fielding to wasnt he. I dont know enough about him but he does seem like he wants to make it all about him. You would thin, after winning this award he would rise above little squabbles like this but there you go.

Neither camp coming across with much class. It's surely Quigg who should get the home dressing room though.

I don't agree, if i was Frampton i'd do exactly the same thing. It's psychological warfare. Quigg is obviously very superstitious and likes the routine to be just so, on the day of the fight. Stopping him from using the dressing room he's accustomed too will throw him off. Superstitious people think like that, it'll affect him mentally, however small, it'll be an advantage.

Bearing in mind Gallagher has been droning on to anyone who'll listen about how clever Quigg's team have been in securing home advantage and what a major factor coming to his backyard will be in the fight, you'd think giving Frampton the home dressing room would be only fair?

Had their bluff called. Frampton obviously doesn't need the security of it or he wouldn't be fighting him in Manchester. Not sure the same can be said of Quigg, as you say. The fact they're now going on about how he gave way on stuff like who's name was first on the poster shows the attempt to pull their dicks has worked.

Frampton's the smarter man and fighter, but Quigg's got more power and he's too thick to know when he's beaten.

Difficult to call but really looking forward to it.

I wonder if Joe Gallagher puts 'Professional Manc' after Occupation on application forms.

Hope they get this sorted.

I'd like to see Lomachenko vs Walters

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is frustrated by HBO’s lack of interest in a card he is trying to sell it featuring featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko against former titlist Nicholas Walters and junior welterweight titlist Viktor Postol against, Arum hopes, Adrian Granados. So even though Top Rank has done all of its premium cable business with HBO for several years, Arum said on Wednesday in New York, where he is promoting the Terence Crawford-Hank Lundy card on Saturday night (HBO, 10 ET/PT), that he is talking to Showtime about the card, even though Arum has often been severely critical of Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza. But now Arum is turning his ire on newly promoted HBO Sports boss Peter Nelson for his lack of interest in the card. It remains to be seen if Espinoza, who has had a poor relationship with Arum, is interested in his proposed doubleheader. Virtually all of Showtime’s fights in recent years have involved fighters from the stable of manager Al Haymon.

Eddie Hearn is unbearable these days

Couldn't agree more. I've never seen a promoter get as involved in the actual shenanigans as he does.

I have to be honest, I think the british board of boxing control should be having a word with him. He's constantly on the wind up, and even yesterday he was putting his hands on Frampton.

It's totally unprofessional, you'd never see bob arum or golden boy act so childish.
