TK's Ratings - QPR Away

Welcome to this edition of TK's Ratings.  Sunday's game saw plenty of incidents and talking points against Harry's latest creation.  Here's the TK take on it, using the medium of player ratings.

Mignolet - 6.  Made a series of important saves and did very well to make himself big for an early one on one.  He was perhaps a little fortunate to see the ball rebound off the frame of the goal a couple of times, including a header from a cross he failed to claim, but otherwise he had a decent game and has found a bit of form in the last couple of games.  Good to see.

Johnson - 6.  Personally, I think criticism of his performance has been highly overstated and I'm bemused by it.  His quick thinking (not laziness, readers) lead to the opening goal and he made some vital defensive interventions.  He made a couple of errors, too, including one wild air shot masquerading as a tackle, but overall was solid defensively and useful going forward.

Skrtel - 5.  Had a similar kind of game to Johnson, going from sublime to ridiculous in what seemed like the blink of an eye at times.  He was busy, particularly in the first half, when the back four received no protection from the ineffective Can.  In his favour Zamora didn't get as much change out of him as he did from Dejan Lovren.

Loven - 4.  Was too easily bossed by Zamora leading to another torrid afternoon for the expensive ex-Saints man.  His distribution was always wayward.

Enrique - 4.  Went AWOL a couple of times at the back post leading to clear chances for the home side, one of which was taken.  He didn't cope well when Zamora pulled out wide.  Most of QPR's attacking play came down his side, particularly in the first half.

Can - 4. Offered zero protection to the back four, failed to give the Reds an attacking platform in the first half and looked highly suspect defensively.  Canonymous was replaced after 65 minutes, offering nothing in either role he found himself in.  Disappointing.

Henderson - 5. Has looked a touch out of form in his last two games for club and country. Failed to find his range with his long passes in the first half.  He made plenty of forward runs, as encouraged recently by Rodgers, but nothing came of them.  Still, he put in his usual shift.

Lallana  - 6.  He was our most creative player in the first  half, forcing a few decent openings with lay-offs and his excellent vision. One ball cut QPR open to send Henderson through, but it was incorrectly flagged offside.  Tired in the second half and was subbed after 65 minutes, no doubt with one eye on Wednesday's game.

Gerrard - 6.  Had no service whatsoever in the first half from Can but still provided one threatening moment with a fine dribble and shot just prior to half time. Grew in influence in the second half, culminating in an assist for Coutinho's goal.  His spirit was important.

Sterling - 7.  Burst into life in the final part of the game to seal the points.  He flitted in and out of the game before that, but his direct running proved to be the difference between the two teams in the end.  It's a good job Roy gave him a nice rest.  Thanks Roy, we owe you one, seriously.

Balotelli - 3.  Everything he touched turned to tragedy and he only avoids a 2 rating for not hiding.  Fair play to him, he kept getting into goal scoring positions but his shooting was abysmal and his decision making even worse.  If he was playing Mario Kart he would always need the red shells with their tracking qualities, perhaps even the spiky blue shell for the proper cretins who need a leveler not to embarrass themselves.  The green shells would be no good.  He'd miss, every time.

Subs:-

Coutinho - 7.  Helped change the game with a dynamic performance.  Kept possession well and got his reward with a well taken goal, albeit with the aid of a deflection.

Allen - 6.  An instant improvement on Can, he helped the midfield gel for the latter part of the game.  Perhaps could have done better for the second goal, as you can't really be getting megged from that distance, but otherwise did well.

Toure - 5.  A very brief appearance.

Manager:-

Rodgers - 5.  Has to take his share of the blame for a dreadful first half and the chronic defensive issues.  Did well to restore some order with his subs in the second half.

Thanks for reading and do visit next time!

I like them...the ratings that is

Thought you were a bit over generous to BR, Can and Lovren but such is life

Thanks, matty. I deliberated a bit over Can's rating, but as Dave said allowances need to be made for him. As for Brendan, his starting XI was questionable but 3 points away from home is what we needed and he delivered them. His subs were timed well and made a positive impact so in my eyes he redeemed himself a bit in those last 30 minutes.
