Hit songs that are unrepresentive of the band...

Reading the Kate Bush thread, and her refusal / unwillingness to perform some of her biggest hits, it got me round to thinking of bands who get fed up of playing the hits all the time, especially for bands where their big hit(s) are totally unrepresentative of the band.

I could think of a few that were huge hits that are poor representations of them.

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall

The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Kraftwerk - The Model

Captain Sensible - Happy Talk

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin'

10cc - I'm Not In Love

Genesis - Follow You, Follow Me

Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart

Must be a few more out there? (but they have to be big hits from famous bands, but ones where many couldn't name you another song they did)

REM - Shiny Happy People - they left if off their best of

Radiohead - Creep - they hate it, apparently

Beastie Boys - Fight for Your Right to Party

Blur - Country House/There's No Other Way

Beastie Boys would count I think, but not sure on the others.... only because they had more hits that people would remember?

That said, a few of my suggestions tread into that category too!

Shiny Happy People reminds me of B52's at that time!

Wasn't one of the B52's singers in that?

Hit songs artists generally refuse to play live:

David Bowie - Space Oddity.

Bob Dylan - All of them, in anything like their recognised form. Doctors' handwriting springs to mind where both music and especially voice are concerned, in terms of affectation and illegibility.

It's got to be in the category where most people who aren't dedicated fans would spout their obvious hit and get completely the wrong impression of the band.

I think the Ramones one is the best so far!

Otherwise there's loads of band who've had hits with oddball songs but they've had lots of other hits too - so doesn't count!
