Seriously Muslim nations have not had a huge cultural impact in terms of the arts. I have been trying to think of music, literature, art, sport etc that is appreciated across the world and I am struggling. Architecture is a positive but is that not religiously influenced.

erm... yes.

Ok mate.

I am all into an inclusive world but it just so happens I do not know any Muslims and as a result am not exposed to their culture. They don't seem to want to share it with the general, you know, people who live in the world. So I am asking does it exist outside of praising bearded Wizards.

My Name Is Red by Orhan Pamuk is widely regarded as one of the finest novel of the 21st century to date.

Unlike the unreadable nonsense published by Salman Rushdie, Pumuk’s novel is an amusing who-dun-it which explores an Islamic concept that the number 3 and the colour red have mystical qualities within the city of Istanbul.

Considering it was first publish 2 or 3 years before our miracle of 2005, I’m quite surprised all god-fearing fans of LFC don’t believe Allah is the one true God and Mohammed the Prophet.

If you enjoy a good read and haven’t sampled this book, treat yourself then get the prayer mat out.

Is Khaled Hosseini muslim? His books are excellent too.

I’m a fully paid-up atheist Pal, nothing dodgy about me.

Honestly, it really is a good read. Mohammed could only be offended if he supports AC Milan.

The love interest is a bint called Estelle, described by some worthy at a Hay Festival as one of the finest fictional female characters ever created. We have all met a woman like her.

Give it a go, you’ll love it.

Pamuk is a superb author. Writes a lot about the clashes between Eastern and Western culture which take place in Turkey. I read his novel 'Snow' a few years ago and it was amazing.

Apparently Muslims believe that when a person dies his spirit lingers by the corpse for a day or so. I discovered this after reading the novel. This starling fact will give you a better understanding of the first chapter.

Thanks to The Resonator, I’ll give Snow a go.

Nice one.
