Selling Sakho

  1. 1. Would it be a mistake to sell him?

Is he any good?  The jury is out for me. At one stage I thought he would form a formidable partnership with Martin Skrtel but he didn't convince me at all during the run in.  I would have preferred it had Agger retained his place.  I think we look a more balanced side in possession and defensively with Danny in the team.

Thoughts?

Might be worth watching several matches back. Start with Newcastle.

There's a top player in there somewhere. Sometimes I think he's boss, other times he makes me nervy. Hard to judge him after a stop-start season but I think he'll really kick on next season.

Anyone know if he'll be a starter at the WC?

He scored two goals in the playoff against Ukraine, didn't he?

I'd pretty much go along with this.  It is hard to judge, but then it probably shouldn't be when he's supposedly the marquee signing and carries a heavy price tag.  I have two concerns:-

  • injury/appearance record
  • suitability for Rodgers' possession based system

The first one is out of his control and the second one is down to the player and Rodgers.  If I were to guess then I don't think he'll be with us as a long term player, but hopefully he'll consolidate during his second season and prove me wrong.

Unsurprisingly, as a young player, I think he needs coaching. The physical manner, the actual gait with which he approaches the ball, whether passing or putting a foot in, causes him problems, imo. Personally, it looks to me like he's trying too hard in that respect. I think with more time he can choose better positions and use his formidable attributes more effectively.

I think he needs to settle, and if he does, then he'll be boss.

Hes better then agger defensively and we havent seen him bullied like we have in the past with agger, I also cant think of many goals which were down to him.

Our cbs need to be strong and quick as certain times they will be left with just them and the dm against the rest on counter attacks, skrtel and sakho should stay for me, loan illori and sell agger, kolo is a decent fourth choice and hopefully illori will be ready after another season out on loan.

We need a dominant cb who is good on the ball which will be easier said then done with a lot of the top teams in europe after cbs this summer.

He was wrongly dropped for the last game of the season.  Flanagan x 2, Mignolet, Johnson x2, Skrtel were the ones making the errors vs Norwich and Palace, yet he was dropped for Agger.

He's our best passing cb.  He's strong, competes with strikers in the air, quicker than Agger.

He is the future and the present.

Don't know anyone can't rate him.  Seems the only argument I can see is "he looks like he is going to make a mistake" or makes people nervous.  Great arguments that.  Why not judge what he actually does instead.

I like him, he just appears ungainly, but I rarely saw him misplace a pass.

You're right, he had a 92.5% pass completion for the season.  It was the highest at the club, the next being 90.8%.
