Best, or favourite, actress around?

Let's try and keep it to acting ability.

Claire Danes is getting a lot of credit these days for the sterling job she does in Homeland and I agree, she's brilliant. They're a good bit older, but I'm also very keen on Glen Close and Melissa Leo; have never seen either have a bad performance and I could watch them do their thing all day. Connie Britton is another who always does a good job.

Close is 65 and Leo, while talented as hell, is not particularly attractive, so I will fulfill my duties but would like to remind you gentleman this is about skill.

Vicky McClure in the first This Is England TV series. The best performance of any actor, male or female, probably ever on British telly. She was so believable in those rape/murder/aftermath scenes that I couldn't get my head round it for ages. The tensest telly I've ever seen.

Always liked Danes since I saw her first in The Rainmaker. Close, Blanchett and Streep are all great actresses too. I'd have to add Jodie Foster and Frances McDormand as well as Laura Linney and Natalie Portman too.

Olivia Colman is bubbling under nicely for me: Fantastic in everything she's been in (Peep Show, Twenty Twelve etc.) Tends to be a bit typecast as a victim but absolutely blew me away in Tyrannosaur - staggering performance. She's had more varied roles and bossed them. One to watch as long as she can stretch her wings.

Anna Gunn (Skyler in Breaking Bad) is worth a mensh. Vicky McClure is a great shout too, Paul. Though like, Colman, I'd like to see her in more varied roles (which I'm sure have, and will continue to come her way).

Been the theatre a few times recently, can't remember the names of the dames I saw, brilliant they were - will update when arsed.

Guest Numero Veinticinco
Jessica Lange has been ruling in American Horror Story. She was fit back in the day. A beautiful lady.

She gave an utterly superb performance in that. Actually, the entire cast gave a great performance.

She was brilliant in an episode in the last series of "Accused" too.

The only thing I saw Claire Danes in was T3 and I thought she was shit tbh.

I agree, just started recently on "Homeland" and whilst i am enjoying it, the acting (apart from Mandy Patinkin) from the leads is hardly anything to write home about. Damian Lewis is an expressionless camel and Danes is just toooooo manic. Brody's wife is tremendous though. To look at.

Two great shouts there gents. I thought McClure was also ace in Line Of Duty with Lenny James.

This is tough, there aren't many female leading lights around are there? I quite liked Glenn Close in The Shield, genuinely can't think of many others.

She is boss in The Shield.

I like these three quite a lot.

I like these three quite a lot now, even without seeing them act.
