Monday Apr 8: “Amorim has verbally agreed to join us”, say a load of twitter bluffers. “No he hasn’t, the Reds are still doing their due diligence” say the LFC reporters. I know who I believe, and it’s not the likes of that Pletigoal jabroni from Sky Germany, who two weeks ago said Alonso was joining Bayern. It probably is Amorim, it feels inevitable now, but it won’t be finalised as up until a couple of weeks ago we were still in talks with Alonso. Sporting are going for the title, he won’t be finalising anything with us for a little while. He’s probably said he’s interested and now his agent will be dealing with most of the talks while he gets on…

This season TLW is once again looking to keep an eye on the younger members of the squad who are continuing their football education on loan. Last season we brought you the insight from Blackburn Rovers fans as Tyler Morton spent the campaign at Ewood Park. While it started brightly for the defensive midfielder, just like the team in general there was a notable drop-off come the end of the 2022/3 season. But all in all, playing a full campaign in one of the most physically intense leagues in Football would have done the 21 year-old the world of good. Now Morton is currently at Hull City, a club who are having a fine season under manager Liam Rosenior, exceedin…

After our midweek stop at Wigan to check in on the excellent progress of Luke Chambers, TLW heads to Yorkshire to see how Fabio Carvalho is coming along at Hull City. There is little doubt that the Portuguese U21 international has natural flair and talent, but for him it has been all about putting that together consistently. It is something that the attacking midfielder was able to do during the 2021/22 season with Fulham where he played a major part in their promotion to the Premier League and was a member of the PFA Championship Team of the Year. A move to Liverpool then eventuated and after a positive start highlighted by a dramatic …

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. A European quarter final against an opponent we have faced in Europe previously, and one which is on the fringes of the top 4 in Serie A. Atalanta in recent seasons have been a bit like Italy's version of Brighton. They have a squad that gets picked apart by wealthier clubs each summer, and the replacements seem to slot in seamlessly and try to make a name for themselves. The coach Gasperini is settled there, having been in charge for almost 8 years now - a rarity in the modern game, and particularly for Serie A where club president…

Can't see it posted elsewhere, not the greatest of players but a legend for the goals he scored for us. My favourite was the winner against the blueshite just after they'd equalised against us. Happy retirement Super Dan. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/super-danny-murphy-top-five-6168362

Love the guy and what he's done for us in the past but, i'm really started to ask myself whether it would be best if we sold him in the summer. He just looks a shadow of his former self, incapable of making the easiest of saves at times. Everytime the opposition shoot at goal these days I get that horrible feeling they're goin to score. Whats happened to him? He's been like this for a few seasons now and he doesn't seem to be getting any better. Even his distribution and kicking which used to be one of his strong points is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Thoughts?

Far too much talk and reactionary angst at our attack. One which has helped us be the highest scoring side in Europe with all five forwards well into double figures and numerous assists. Maybe, just maybe if our defence could get their shit together we won't need our forwards needing to score 3 or 4 to win every tough game. Peak Klopp era, we were good at racking up 1-0 or 2-1 wins. But now we concede to everyone even to rock bottom sides like Sheffield Utd. Clean sheets have been a rarity since the turn of the year. Our defence is probably going to be the biggest factor in us not winning this league. A litany of errors and concession of silly goals. We need t…

I've always wondered why pundits are given the time of day they are. It really is quite odd. They are, by and large, examples of failure for the most part, or at least rarely are they examples of overwhelming success. For instance. The other day I was listening to Souness talk about "what it takes to be a great manager". Now, his qualities as a player are undoubted, but how the fuck can he sit there with a straight face and talk about what it takes to be a great manager, when he was an absolute failure of one? And why do people listen to it? Similarly, I watch players like Danny Mills and Robbie Savage give their tupence on the ability of players who they could on…

Not beating this dogshit Man United side once can be put down to bad luck. Not beating them twice is careless. Failing to beat this fucking horrendous shambles of a United side on THREE occasions is embarrassing and inexcusable. It’s going to take a long time for me to get over this one, unless of course we somehow still end up winning the title. That’s no longer in our hands though. It was before this fucking debacle. Everything that had gone before this weekend was irrelevant as it was all just setting us up for this, an eight game sprint to the line where we had a three point start over City and a two point start over Arsenal. Win all eight and we’d be Cham…

Monday Apr 1: Been thinking about what I said last week about not having any better suggestions than the managers that have been linked with us so far, which is basically Amorim and De Zerbi as there hasn’t really been any credible links to anyone else. It’s a sad state of affairs that neither of those feel right at all and I don’t want either, but there isn’t anyone else who ticks all boxes either. So if there’s no-one who ticks every box, no clear outstanding candidate, then shouldn’t we just go with someone who we at least know understands the club? My first choice would be Pep Lijnders, but for whatever reason he isn’t even getting any consideration from t…

I know the piss will be taken etc. The other Celtic thread was a Brendan Rodgers one. Treble treble won today. Limited resistance agreed for the most part and next season will be the hardest in the march for 10 in a row. Take nothing away from the achievement though. Tough final today, playing shite and Hearts wanted it more until they scored. Celtic dug deep and won. I know we have a few Celtic on here so this is for us.

Should have a proper thread. Just kicked off on BBC1. Away at Chelsea today and could spring a surprise after a really solid start to the season. Hobinger and Hinds obvious stand outs so far this season, but Fisk has been great, as have Bonner and a few others. Enjoyable day out with the kids if you can get to it with a pretty decent standard of game. The away end is pretty solid as well, with a ‘hardcore’ having songs for pretty much the whole team.

Mo Salah has detailed how valued Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez are within the Liverpool camp. The two 24 year-old forwards came to the club last season, a campaign which was marked by its inconsistency on a overall team level. Despite the fragile confidence level of the team, both Nunez and Gakpo performed adequately in their debut campaign (Nunez 15 in 42 appearances) while Gakpo arrived midway through the season from PSV when the Reds were suffering a true crisis of confidence and given those circumstances he produced a respectable 7 goals from 26 appearances. Having that sort of introduction to a new league may have been a daunting o…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. We've fucked about enough against these lot this season (an several times in the last few years). A lack of cutting edge in the home game, and a chronic lack of concentration combined with plenty of complacency in the FA Cup tie last month, mean that we must get our shit together for this fixture, which has added importance if we are to remain ahead in the title race. We can't allow the likes of Rashford (who seems totally disinterested most of the time) look like Thierry Henry every time we rock up at the Theatre of Leaks. He's got…
