The Reds season is still alive after a much needed win at Fulham got their title challenge back on track. Goals from Trent, Gravenberch and Jota sunk the Cottagers in what was a more comfortable win than many expected. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Julian Richards and Dan Thomas to look back on this game as well as previewing the midweek trip to Goodison. There's also a heated discussion on refs, VAR, Forest's bizarre statement and the impact officiating has had on this year's Premier League. View full article

We live to fight another day then. Defeat here would have buried us and considering the run we’d been on it wouldn’t have been much of a shock. Fulham is a difficult place to go when they’re at it, but thankfully they weren’t and it was fairly comfortable in the end. The game was still in the balance at half time though so it wasn’t a completely stress free afternoon, but once we got the second goal it was generally without drama and the third goal made it completely safe. In terms of how we played and what it means moving forward, we played ok and no-one has a clue what it means. Winning this doesn’t solve all of our issues but it should go some way to refoc…

Monday Apr 15: Feels somewhat inappropriate to be as down about the Palace game as I am considering what today is. It’s always a sobering day, especially when you see some of the things posted on twitter by survivors or the families of one of the 97. To be honest, I try and avoid it, which I’m not proud of, but even now after all these years it’s so upsetting and the sense of injustice is as strong as ever, and I didn’t even lose anyone close to me. I never know what to say either, even JFT97 feels kind of hollow now because what does it even mean? There’ll never be justice, I think the only thing we can do is ensure they’re never forgotten, which of course th…

Thought I'd start a thread on this as a few of you have asked about it. Basically, anyone who has an active subscription should not be seeing any ads at all on the site (other than in house ones for t-shirts etc). Subscribers are ad free, so if you are seeing them it's because of the theme you have selected. Go to the bottom of the page and select TLW Subscribers theme. When that's selected you shouldn't be getting any ads showing. If your sub runs out you'll start seeing them and they won't automatically go when you renew, you'll need to scroll down and re-select the TLW Subscribers theme again. Any problems, either post in here or sen…

Former referee Mark Halsey has spoken about the diminishing levels of referee standards in English football. The 59 year-old who retired in 2013 after 14 seasons as a Premier League referee is now a close observer of the whistle blowers and does not like what he sees. The Daily Star reported Halsey as saying: “I hate to criticise fellow colleagues but over the last six to seven years the standard is dropping alarmingly, at all levels. “We have some great referees out there at the top, and I think Michael Oliver is by far our best referee; Martin Atkinson, Mike Dean, they are experienced guys and they are good referees. …

Lower leagues have begun and there’s less than an hour until the Charity Shield kicks off. Time for a new one.

I often find that the latest injury news gets buried in the match threads or in threads about individual players....So I thought a thread dedicated to the latest situation on our players with injuries might be a decent idea. Hopefully the forum server has enough bandwidth to cope.... So as it stands.... Luis Diaz: Knee Injury Oct 11: 'Six to eight weeks, we will see. He looks like a quick healer, but we will see. Could have been worse.' Potential Return 26/12/2022 Joel Matip: Calf/Shin/Heel Injury Further Detail Oct 21: 'Everything is going w…

I know very little about the fella, but by all accounts (including many supposedly in the know) he just might be our next manager. Good things I’ve read; 1. - He won the league with Sporting Lisbon who are traditionally Portugal’s third strongest team in 2022, and he is on track to do it again this season. Bad things I’ve read; 1. He’s big mates with Mourinho. Anyway, some relevant shit on his coaching ability:

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. After a much improved display and decent result at Fulham, we move onto the second of 4 away games in succession (the first being the trip to Bergamo) when we visit the 'Grand Old Lady'. Like a grand old lady, it's seen better days decades ago and now stinks of piss. Countless times this season, Everton have come up against an equally shit opponent, dragged them down to their level and beaten them through experience. They and Ashley Young got a massive helping hand against Forest, who were denied 3 penalties. Forest's cry-arsing sta…

The body removed from the submerged plane in the Channel has been confirmed to be Emiliano Sala! May he rest in peace, deepest sympathies to his family. My thoughts are with family of David Ibbotson too, let's hope he's found soon so his loved ones can grieve properly.

So, what do we reckon? I’ll give it two years maximum. He’ll get the first couple of transfer windows free because they’ll want to look like they’re invested in the ‘project’ but the majority of them will still want instant results. Thankfully these days instant results for them would be sneaking into the top 4. What a time to be alive.

We always show good support away but today was outstanding. Well in to the lads who went and stood in that shithole today with all those thousands of cunts and didn't stop singing for the whole ninety minutes. Superb.

Video refs 1 2

I think football is too big an industry not to be making use of video refs at games. Since there are highlights from every professional league game I don't see why officials can't use the monitors the TV crews use for penalty decisions, sending offs and to decide whether or not the ball has crossed the line. It would take the same amount of time for the ref to ask for the video ref to review it as it would for him to consult his assistants. Obviously when you get up to the championship and premier league, a lot of stadiums have big screens now anyway so everyone would be able to see the decision and it would take a lot of the conning out of football. If this was brought i…
