Reports: Liverpool made £6m bid for Chelsea teenager

Liverpool were thwarted in bids to sign two of the top young Danish talents last summer.

According to reports, the Reds tried and failed to land Chelsea’s versatile youngster Andreas Christensen last summer. The 19-year-old Dane, who is comfortable in defence and as a defensive midfielder was a target for the Reds in the summer transfer window and was the subject of a £6m bid according to Danish website tv3sport.dk.

However, the bid was turned down by Chelsea who then proceeded to offer Christensen a new five year contract which was signed before the defender was granted his wish of a two year loan at German giants Borussia Monchengladbach.

Christensen, who has one full cap for Denmark, had made just three appearances for Chelsea before heading to Germany where he has so far amassed a total of 25 first team appearances scoring two goals. Both came in a 5-1 victory over Werder Bremen last Friday. According to the report both Chelsea and Borussia Monchengladbach now want the player with them, but it remains to be seen if the Reds will revisit their interest in the player this summer having since changed managers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool were also thwarted in their attempts to sign another Danish teenage talent. National newspaper Ekstra Bladet reported on Tuesday that the Reds wanted to sign 18-year-old FC Midtjylland forward Mikkel Duelund, but both player and club turned down the Anfield offer. Duelund had come to the Reds attention when playing against their under 21 side for Denmark under 20s in the summer of 2015. He has four goals in 11 league appearances for the Danish champions this season and is seen as a star of the future.
