Manchester City v Liverpool - Betting preview

Liverpool travel to the Etihad stadium to face current Premier League leaders Manchester City. This will be a tough game for Liverpool, they have been unlucky in previous years this but could be a good chance to get something. We have a full match preview with all the latest team news.

Full Match preview

Raheem Sterling will be facing his old side with a little bit of tension in the air. He left Liverpool on what some think were bad terms, so some boos may be echoing around the stadium. He will want to put that behind him and put out a good performance for his new club. James Milner has been captain while Jordan Henderson has been injured, making him the temporary skipper under the new Klopp regime. However Milner suffered an injury which forced him out of the Crystal Palace game but he could return from injury to face his old club, he returns on better terms than Sterling will. Nonetheless he will still want to beat them and get a vital three points for Liverpool.

Liverpool have had a mixed run of form recently, a disappointing loss met them in their last game. A 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace meant that Liverpool went into 10th after a string of victories under new manager Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool beat Chelsea, Rubin Kazan and Bournemouth. This form will want to be continued by the team in order to climb up the table and move into a place to challenge for a top four spot. Liverpool are also still in all of their potential competitions - The Europa League, League Cup and the FA Cup. Klopp would love to win some silverware in his first season, but the squad can’t get too stretched as a good finish in the Premier League is essential.

Liverpool will be hoping that the run of good form that some of their players have shown can continue, the likes of Benteke, Coutinho, Firmino, Moreno and Can have all been performing well recently. They will be key to this upcoming game and they will need to perform well in order for Liverpool to beat Manchester City. A few players will be coming back from the international break and should hopefully be fit and fresh to play.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will want to bounce right back after the Palace defeat and the team will want redemption. Liverpool have struggled when travelling to the Etihad stadium in recent years, they have not beaten them since October 2008 in the league. Klopps side could completely redeem themselves if they get a win at the Etihad, all eyes will be on striker Benteke and midfielder Coutinho who will be the main attacking forces for Liverpool. Since Klopp has taken the reigns at Liverpool they have looked a much better side. The style of play has not changed too much, but the players are looking more engaged and look much better quality due to this.

The latest team news

Coming into this game Liverpool have a lot of injuries, before the international break they lost Sakho due to a knee injury. Sakho had been in great form since Jurgen Klopp was appointed, the best we have seen of him since he joined in 2013. This injury means Dejan Lovren will be the most likely choice to replace the injured defender. Liverpool are also missing their captain Jordan Henderson who is expected back soon, defender Joe Gomez and striker Danny Ings also miss out due to injury. However there could possibly be four players returning for this fixture. Kolo Toure could return as could Ibe and Milner and unlikely starter, Rossiter. Daniel Sturridge is likely to miss this game but could return a week later when Liverpool face Swansea.

Manchester City could also have a few players coming back from an injury spell. Star striker Aguero is expected to be fit for the match but is an unlikely starter. He returns with Silva, Nasri, Kompany and Zabaleta. These players could really boost the City squad and could cause a lot of issues for Liverpool. Wilfried Bony remains injured with a hamstring injury and is not expected to return for this match.

Betting predictions and tips

This is a huge game, Liverpool need to bounce back and find their form, Manchester City will want to keep their top spot and keep contenders Arsenal on their toes. There has been some great matches between these two clubs and this particular fixture should be no different. My free betting tip is for the game to finish a draw.
