I've found programs using google, but need to see if any of youse have a recommended free tool for converting m4a files from my ipod library to mp3 so I can play them off the memory in my car stereo.

Fanks again!

You can do that from within iTunes, which I assume you use with your ipod.

Re: Converting m4a to mp3

Yep, I use iTunes.

I want to leave the stuff on iTunes as is - my new motor has 16gb built in memory which only plays mp3 tracks. I need to copy files from my iTunes library to a new library, convert them to mp3 and stick them on a memory stick to download into the usb port on the car stereo.

I just wasn't clear in the first post!

Re: Converting m4a to mp3

Ok, cheers folks. Got the converting done.

Most of the tracks are copying well from my desktop onto the memory stick - but a few albums are coming up with the error message

Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?

The file >>file name>>> has properties that cannot be copied to the new location.

Can't work out how to fix the files to copy them.

Ideas??

Something to do with removing metadata?

Re: Converting m4a to mp3

Looks like it is because your computer is formatted NTFS and the drive you are trying to copy to is FAT formatted. Would it be an option to reformat the drive you are trying to save the files to, as NTFS? Otherwise, you probably need to delete the properties, i.e MP3 tags etc. from the files, in order to copy them over.

Oh, another thing could be the length of the filenames, are these problematic files, much longer than the ones the copy correctly? That could also be the problem.
