Buying a new pc/laptop which to choose?

Need a new computer very soon so it's decision time!
I only really use my computer for the internet, pictures, music and music programs so can anyone recommend a pc or laptop to help me out?
Are laptops trustworthy because i keep hearing of people having problems or should i just stick with a pc?
And are macs really worth because everyone says how ace they are?
I'm not going to spend loads of money on one because of what i use the computer for but if i'm tempted i might stretch the budget.
Thanks in advance people.

Tesco have a great laptop on offer now. It's an acer aspire something or other for 350 squids. It's got a core 2 due t7500 processor in it which if you have a look on a hardware site you'll see usually comes in about 500/600 quids worth of laptop.

Re: Buying a new pc/laptop which to choose?

Yuss. It was this one : -

Acer Aspire 5720 T7500 2GB 15.4" Laptop - Tesco.Direct

I dunno which particular stores have them but i've seen them in the one in old swan and the one in bromborough if you're anywhere near either of those. I did buy one and kept it for a week but i took it back because i needed the cash what with me being a pov. I'll probably get another next week though if the offer is still on.

Sexy I admit they are. Cost-effective, fuck no.

Oh and good luck if you ever want to watch streaming footy over the net without having to write your own code or someshit.

The operating system is very stable and safe. As for being cost-effective, they never die so in the long run they are very cost effective. As for footy, you can always dual-boot windows with bootcamp. And they're sexy as fuck.

Re: Buying a new pc/laptop which to choose?

Mate, they're no more reliable than your average decent-make PC, same components inside nowadays anyway. OS is nice if a bit too locked-down, if I was to fuck off MS it'd be for Ubuntu. I like 'em and want one at some point, but they're still a ripoff for what they are.

Re: Buying a new pc/laptop which to choose?

find me a £350 mac as good as that acer lappy and i might consider one.

All I know is we update macs for our press time more often than any other department at work, everyone else in on pcs.

macs are just limited for joe public.

A laptop will be much slower than a desktop pc for same money. A decent gaming pc would be £600 - 700 but similar spec laptop would be £1000 similar spec mac would be £1200
