Wonder if anyone can help.I am thinking of buying a satelllite receiver and dish, but I no nothing about them.I basically want one for the match on sat afternoons.

I am looking to do this as cheap as possible.Have around £400 could push to £500.Thing is I havent a clue whats good to get etc.Another thing is are they easy to set up etc.

Would appreciate any help on the matter from anyone on the sort of set up i would need.

Re: Satellite receivers

You need a dreambox 500. If you get a dish with twin LNB that can pick up 13 & 19 degrees that should sort you.

Then you need to know someone that can help you with decoding the channels so you can watch the match.

Re: Satellite receivers

I dug out an old post of mine from here and updated it a little (I have been using foreign satellite for 3 years now)

Deffo go for the dodgy dish and watch 80-100% of the games depending on which way you go.

Without a card using feeds and keys you can get most of the matches, or get a card such as digitalb and up that to 95% of the games that you can pickup. I started with a Technomate 1500 CL which are very, very easy to use.

Always go for the motorised option as providers and prices can change so this gives you way more freedom.

I started with a very cheap setup

dish, cabling lnb (£40)
motor (£45)
receiver (£80)

I paid a guy £75 to set it up for me.

I could then pick up most of the games for free using liveonsat.com to find out what was on where. They were often with foreign commentary but I was still well happy. A lot of providers are open via keys / hacks and it's great fun.

You can then progress to something better (although a little more complicated), a linux based receiver (HD too) with every package available via c/s. The best option for starting down this route is a dreambox 500S whilst waiting a bit longer for a receiver to really own the HD market.

I would recommend getting someone to set it all up for you. Have a chat with john23liverpool (from TTE 'The Tradesman's Entrance' section) and see what he can sort for you.

Re: Satellite receivers

been thinking about getting a dreambox600 (500 aren't made anymore), can supersports be cleared this way (with keys) or is it uncrackable like sky? what about c/s, how does that work(does it cost, as someone must have bought the card right)???

Dreambox 500s are still available on ebay, be careful not to get a cloned box as the tuners will be weak and some official software will brick them.

I am not up to date on open packages but, I can't remember supersport being opened purely by keys. Premiere is often open and also TPS. D+ is now encrypted with Nagra 3 so wont be open via keys until that is cracked.

Premiere is a German Package on 19e astra1 (English Audio available as well as German)

TPS is a French Package on 13e hotbird (French audio)

Polsat is Polish and also on 13e hotbird (open when keys are available, Polish Audio)

Plenty of other smaller packages are open via keys (films, sport & porn). There are some Free to Air packages that show the Premiership too (mainly foreign commentary) but without a card then feeds are your best best. These are mostly sky broadcasts without commentary (the source theyuse for football first and then put the commentary on afterwards).

D+ on 19e and 30w (Spanish audio) are now pretty much dead

You would be best off with something like a Digitalb card (16e). The quality isn't the best but it is pretty good value.

C/S is not something to be discussed on an open forum really. There are plenty of setups where you don't share your card, but pay a monthly fee to some dodgy geezer who probably can't be trusted. It works best with a small group of friends, each have a different card which is shared between themselves.

Re: Satellite receivers

If you get all this malarkey, presumably you can still have sky if you point the dish in the right place?

The costs of mine which I posted above were for a motorised setup. I would try and pick up the parts 2nd hand. Did you try john23liverpool (from TTE 'The Tradesman's Entrance' section) yet? Maybe PM him and ask him to take a look at this thread.

Re: Satellite receivers

Just a note to say I would hold off buying a pay card until things settle down, I can't see a clear winner at the moment for 3pm games. ***Digitalb look to be having problems and at this moment in time will not be showing 3pm games!!***
