New Laptop....

I was wondering whether anyone can help me in my search for a laptop.

i'm heading to the U.S for the year and i need to get a nice new laptop because...well, because i want one. The highest i will go is probably around 600 pounds but i dont know whether i can get a quality one for that kinda price.

On my current desktop i have about 60GB worth of music and a fuck load more films/tv programmes (i'm a sucker for downloading)....

anyways, i spotted these two laptops from the dixons website and, as i know fuck all about computers, thought they were my best bet (using the "more expensive they are, the better" argument)...

HP DV2810 Laptops - Review cheap HP Laptop deals - Dixons.co.uk

Sony VGN-NR32S/S Laptops - Review cheap Sony Laptop deals - Dixons.co.uk

what do you guys reckon? i hope to god they will work in the U.S...

Re: New Laptop....

I always thought most electrical goods were cheaper in the US so might be Worth considering buying one in the states if you're are prepared to wait. The only thing that you will need is one of those things that changes the power supply an inverter but they only cost a couple of quid... Also if anything goes wrong with the laptop you would need to send it back to the UK just a thought like.

the only problem is that i am buying the laptop for the long-term, so buying it in the U.S may be a bad idea in the long run. Also, i have all my stuff on my current desktop and i would prefer to transfer it all to my laptop before i reach the U.S.

No probs If you are going to buy from Dixons have a look for voucher codes on places like hotdeals.co.uk it should knock something off the price..

How much stuff do you need to transfer though? With the dollar being weak and the price of electrical stuff low in the US, I would seriously consider getting one there and taking any stuff over on an external drive, usb drive, discs that sort of thing. You will probably pay half the price. As for the power supply, don't worry, US laptops work in europe. You would just need to either get a simple plug adapter for the cable, or just buy a new british cable when you get back. Either way, its a hell of a lot cheaper.

Re: New Laptop....

Just buy an external hard drive for now. It's probably a good idea anyway, rather than having shit loads of stuff on your laptop.
