Re: Some interesting future tech concepts, nerdstroms
My mate who works at Sony told me yesterday that Nokia is getting out of the hardware market and concentrating making money through its acquisition of the Symbian operating System.
Sony have binned their own OS and are now teaming up with Nokia to try and take on the iphone

Thats what the general concensus is in the business as well ,however both will be undercut by RIM (Blackberry) who seem to have a real plan to take them all on. And from their point of view they have a advantage over Nokia/Sony/Apple in that their OS actually works within the business enviroment which is where the real money is

Nokia is a worlwide market leader (sheer volume) in handsets. I'd be surprised if they'd give up that part of their business so easily.
As for Sony tying up w/ the Finns..... perhaps...
But then what about SonyEricsson... unless thats what you meant... That SE would merge/join/collaborate with Nokia....
I hope not........ I love SE's OS and much prefer it to Symbian or Nokia own OS.....
I reckon the reason that Apple launced the iphone SDK is to counter the impending release of Android........

Sadly thats true.....
I'm indifferent to Blackberry devices.... Ive never been overly impressed with their interface and their OS used to be somewhat clunky.... Noway near as bad as Motorola, but still a little bit cumbersome.....
They improved that aspect recently....
However the uptake/usage of Blackberry devices and their Enterprise servers on non RIM handsets is staggering.....
Just about every US government department seems to choose Blackberry over all other options.....

not just the usa mate, pretty much every government across the globe has deployed them because of the security in built in the BES and now its getting a bit of a cult status thing at the moment due to the amount of A-List Celebs using them .For some reason the Indians banned them though
The reason they've not been taken up hugely in the non commercial manner is the cost and the lack of snazzy bits but believe me ,I've seen the new devices due out ,I'm writing this on one at the moment ...the new range will absoloutly destroy Nokia and will have a serious pop off Iphone ,its the best operating system I've used on any handset ever ,and I've used them all
