Re: Firefox add ons

K, I dont use many but here goes...

- The dictionary / spell checker obviously
- Adblock plus - works very well at killing all the ads on sites like this
- Gmail Manager - because gmail is my main email client and the notifier is useful
- IE View lite - When you need to view pages in Internet Explorer this opens them in an IE Tab
- Go To Google - I know that there is a google search box but I like this extension a lot. It sits in the bottom corner and is just a [G] icon that opens a new google tab when you click on it

*** Ones that aren't working in FF3 ****

- New Tab Homepage - Simply loads your homepage (google) when you open a new tab. Rather than a blank page.

That is about all. I have tried loads but ended up uninstalling them to speed things up again.

My favourite tip is Ctrl+T which opens a new tab.

Re: Firefox add ons

Adblock Plus as mentioned above.
Foxmarks so I can change machines and have my bookmarks updated.

Re: Firefox add ons

Another one that I just installed is called cusomizegoogle. It removes all of the ad's from the search results and adds a couple more features.

Re: Firefox add ons

The google toolbar of course.

Download Statusbar. When you download something, the progress is shown in your status bar. Then you can click on the download to do with it as you please.

Screengrab. That's what it does.

Tab Mix Plus. Let's you re-open a closed tab, lists a number of your closed tabs too in case you want to go back to them. Let's you open a duplicate tab, so you get a copy of the current one with the same history on it if you want to go back. Shit like that.

Speed Dial. You can put about 9 websites into it then when you open a blank tab you've got nine thumbnails (giant's thumbnails) of your favourite nine sites, so one more click and you're there.

LinkAlert. When you hover over a link, it changes the cursor slightly to warn you if it's a link that opens in a new window, or is a javascript link or whatever. Handy sometimes.

Down them all. Finds images or links to images (and other stuff) on a page and with a couple of clicks, downloads them all.

Re: Firefox add ons

Interesting to see why people use Google related add ons. Why not just use the Firefox address bar? (If you type a search directly into the address bar it goes straight to Google with the search text).

I use things like FlashBlock (stops flash movies playing until you click on the flash logo, stops a lot of annoying and shit ads in their tracks), IE Tab, FEBE (my favourite extension, you can take a complete backup of your Firefox profile and copy it to another machine) and ReloadEvery, which reloads a page after x seconds.

I like the way on the Google toolbar your search term shows up word by word on the search bar as a button - click the word and it finds it on the page. You can also highlight the search terms, a different colour for each word. I like the "search site" button too.

Re: Firefox add ons

Just been on a Firefox addon fest.

This is cool. It allows you to browse pics on a wizzy pic wall. Works with Amazon search too.

This little tool looked useful and works okay in Google but now I've installed it I'm not convinced it's that useful.

Also got Flagfox and it tells me TLW is hosted in the US?! Really?
