Got 3 broadband pay as you go which I use in my outside office and can't send emails from outlook as I can't find the 3 server details - is there a generic smtp server you can put in? I can receive mails fine

Re: generic smtp needed
Most smtp hosts are unrestricted ,so in effect you could use any host to send with ,as long as you have the correct smtp address...its only with the incoming that you need authentication

Did anyone else feel that Mel Gibson's remake of the classic Life of Brian wasn't anywhere near as funny as the original?

That's not true. SMTP hosts are not normally unrestricted, otherwise they'd be an open relay for sending spam and would end up getting blacklisted by ISPs.

I use quite a few different sending hosts over here mate , the crowd I was using were a shambles ,server was down more often than ronaldo, and I had a relay of 4 different smtp's for sending.I'm sure theres limits set from whatever they use to monitor the traffic flow but they had absoloutly no restrictions and I was using hosts I did not have a account with

Tried that to no avail - will have to stick to mail2web for the time being as 3 have zero customer support

Re: generic smtp needed
Can you not use gmail?
Sign up for a gmail account, then in settings look for the "Forwarding/pop/imap" option - http://mail.google.com/mail/#settings/fwdandpop - for me.
You can use IMAP or POP3 for incoming messages, and their SMTP for outgoing.
Outlook 2003 - Help Center (this is for setting up IMAP, SMTP, in Outlook 2003, there are other help pages for other combinations).
It has funny port numbers compared to "normal" email accounts, so follow the instructions, but it works like a treat.
