When are you too old to play games?
I've just hit 35 (if you weren't aware . . . ) and bought a PS3 for my birthday. Am I too old? Should I be directing my priorities elsewhere? Is gaming now respectable?

Gaming's been respectable since the launch of the PS1 I reckon, before that it was seen as more of a kid's and teenager's passtime - but anyone who said they didn't enjoy them anyway was a liar.

The only things you're too old for at 35 is going out on the lash two nights running and recovering in time for Monday, believe me, I'm 28 and I'm a wreck.

Gaming is just another branch of digital culture for me. I don't see it as a 'yoof' pastime (especially with the number of 18 cert games available now, and developers targetting adult gamers and their massive wallets).

I was reading an article somewhere that stated that the 30-40 age bracket was now one of the most lucrative in the gaming market.

As for age, my mates Dad still enjoys a good solid game of Command & Conquer, and other similar games, at the ripe old age of 75.

Conclusion, you're never too old to stop gaming, not until they prise that fancy 6 axis controller out of your warty cold fingers.

You are never too old.

I went back to gaming this winter after 3 or 4 years thinking I was too old, I'm 30 now and took a 360 with 40 plus flashed games one night off gumtree for about £180.

Even in that time out, the improvement in games is incredible and I am glad I did.

Even in relationships, its great to find a couple of hours, mostly in the winter and batten down with a Silent Hill, Condemned or CoD title. It will be harder once you settle down to find time and justify cost but if you stay single you're laughing. I know chaps who wouldn't even consider bringing home a console knowing they'd get the treatment and I think that's sad.

One of the best nights-in experiences I ever had was the friday Metal Gear Solid came out, with the double disc box, cinematic intro, it was a really rich experience. Truly immersive.

The quality of the sports sims now is breathtaking as well - Madden I have played since the megadrive in 92, I grew up with those, fifa and NBA Live, from Bulls v Celtics and so on.

In the first era of PS1, I took Lara and McRae titles round to my mate's flat, he's a real leftie, stoner, hippy, backpacker muso and not expecting him to get it.... he loved it and he plays daily to this day...

He's now 45.
