Wireless Router advice

Currently got Virgin (Blueyonder) broadband, and want to go wireless at home (gettin a Wii and I need to be online for Mario Kart), but my PC isnt wireless and I want to keep a solid network cable into PC.

I contacted Virgin and was told their wireless router was wirless only and I'd have to buy one of them dongle things for back of the PC off them as well - not into that.

Can any of you recommend a wireless router that'll work with Virgin broadband and give me the option of connecting directly to PC with a wire?

Oh and if the advice is good I'll promise to go easy on you all on Mario Kart when I get online...

Re: Wireless Router advice

Most wireless routers have a network hub built in mate, meaning up to 8 ethernet ports in the back of the router for hard-wiring a network. Can you see any network ports in the back? What make/model is it?

ps we're all fucking good at Mario Kart so you wanna get the practice in.

That sounds like horseshit. According to the virgin website it will be a Netgear router if you got it after Feb 2007, looking like this:

Re: Wireless Router advice

Thanks

Love the fact that Wiiksie told me what I wanted to hear in techie, and in his own less technical way RIS told me the same thing.

I havent actually got router yet, cos the gimp I spoke to at Virgin put me off, but I've just spoke to a lad in work who has a spare netgear router so will try that out.

Still waiting for Wii to arrive, should be here by end of the week, but I dont reckon I'll need to get too much practice in, played it online in my mates last week and was winning 3 out of 4 races I was in, and that was before learning the circuits - just gotta make sure I buy a game cube controller as well.

gamecube controllers are cheating. your mates may have been shite. weeksie is ace (because he cheats). Free wireless routers are the best.

It would be if you got mini turbo for free but you don't. I am training myself on manual drift, I am sure it is the way forward.

Thats they way I play as well. As for my mates being shit bewteen us we racked up 250 online wins by Saturday afternoon and we started on Friday evening, so lets just say I fancy my chances. All those non wasted hours playing double dash means there is very little learning curve for this other than learning a few new tracks.

And game cube controller is not cheating - otherwise there wouldnt be a socket for it!

Re: Wireless Router advice

l'm with virgin media and l've got THIS ONE Its a bit pricey, but it really is good stuff, build quality and reliability wise. Got my PC and xbox on wired connections and Wii on wireless. Well recommended. It was £99 when l bought it, so it might be wise to shop around.

Cos the gold is for the £s or whatever they have in Sweden that some fool paid for the steering wheel which is clearly an inferior gaming accessory?

Getting a netgear one tomorrow from a mate in work, don't know what model yet - hopefully it'll do the job

It is using a web interface, log into it via 192.168.0.1 in Safari or whatever browser you use.

Nope, totally lost. Just put that in the address bar? It doesn't do anything (probably obviously).
