FM2006 tactics
It's either difficult or I'm a bad player. Only advice I'd give is have good wingers who can cross the ball and strikers with heading ability.
I'm playing some odd system like
------------Reina------------
-------Carra--Sami--Agger----
----------Xabi---Momo-------
Gerrard------------------Riise
------------Luis------------
-------Cisse-----Moro-------

Re: FM2006 tactics
I started a Liverpool-game, played a traditional 4-4-2 attacking but ended the first season on 10th with something like 70-60 in goal difference. Got sacked 4 games into the 2nd season.
Started a new game and applied a self made defensive 4-5-1-tactic (counter) with two holding defensive midfielders. Something like:
---------Reina---------
Carra-Hyypia-Van Buyten-Riise
------Alonso----Sissoko----
--------v--------- v
-----------Gerrard---------
--------------v
Garcia------------------Zenden
---v----------------------v
---v----------------------v
---------Morientes---------
Went unbeaten for the first 12-13 games, but I had something like 6-6-0 in win-draw-lost and about 18-4 in goaldifference. Then I started loosing some games and had to apply a different home-tactic (more offensive). Went out of the CL with 1-5-0.........
So far I've learned that it's probably a good thing to have a different tactics away and home.

Re: FM2006 tactics
Doing better in my second season (came 3rd in the first) and have started offloading the deadwood; Luis, Crouch, Zenden, sold Carson, Didi and have some talented youngsters coming thru. (defence is now Carra, Zuilerloon, Van Borre and Agger)
Morientes is in top form and Cisse is banging em in but now need to find more strikers.
ALT has returned from loan and looks a top player.

Re: FM2006 tactics
this game is so unfair. keep getting beat despite having loads more shots on target than the other team all the fucking time. it's getting silly now. randomly beat the mancs 5:1, but that aside I'm on about a 2 month losing streak. fucking bollocks.

Re: FM2006 tactics
Just won League One with Forest on the last day of the season playing a 4-4-2 with attacking full backs and wingers.
One thing i've done this time that I rarely do is not give my centre mids too much instruction, just let them get on with it themselves.

It is much tougher than 04/05. Some players thought I wasn't praising them enough - they weren't doing very well though!

Re: FM2006 tactics
Like in FM2005 I've gone with a 4-1-3-2 formation that looks like this:
--------------Reina--------------
Finnan-Carra-Hyypiä-Riise/Warnock
--------------Alonso-------------
-----Gerrard-Sissoko-Kewell------
-----/----------I---------\------
---------Cisse---Morientes-------
Top of the league so far in mid January.
I've brought in: Nuri Sahin, Lebohang Mokoena and a couple of other youngsters but so far haven't spent anything of any significance.
Oh yeah, and Crouch has bagged 6 in 4 starts (and 9 subs appearances) When I play him I set my tactics to suit him - long balls from the bac 4 for him to knock down for Cisse/Morientes. It often works.
I have a problem sometimes when I go a goal up that my fullbacks tend to drift too much forward and out of position leaving space, so I often change it midway through a game to make sure they're defending first and foremost.

Re: FM2006 tactics
it's true, I actually am a very sad panda indeed. mainly due to this game having been designed by wankers .

just needs mastering, obviously the old amc trick no longer works. My team is a bit Chelski - very pacey, tough tackling and target men up front.I've only 1 attacking midfielder tho.

Re: FM2006 tactics
you're right I know. except I keep having these games, and I really do keep having them, where I get like 12 shots on target to their 1, whereupon I lose the game one fucking nil. this is why I'm feeling a little persecuted.

Re: FM2006 tactics
I have designed all my own training schedules and the players are flying up but I am conceding goals by the bucketload
My first choice 11 after 11 games in the first season so far is
Reina
Madlung Hyypia Carra Givet
Alonso
Deisler Gerrard Messi
Garcia
Morientes
I have conceded 18 goals in 11 games with that formation but scored 21. I really need to tighten up my players are starting to get pissed off with me Simao is a piece of shit as is Deisler. HELP!!!

Re: FM2006 tactics
is right about the training. put all my kiddies on good training programmes & sudden;y the ratings have gone through the roof. second season now and I'm beginning to kick all the arse.
reina
magno kompany carra pineda
karimi gerrard tuncay
recoba
cavenaghi torres
with iaquinta, adu, kerlon, felipye gabriel and pasanen on the bench. cavenaghi's got like 20 dribbling & 19 passing amongst other things after a bit of training, quite cheap too. torres/kompany amazing, recoba/karimi free, kerlon/adu/gabriel stats leaping up.
suddenly the world's a nicer place.

There's a real player called Madlung? Fucking great name. If I ever buy this game I'm having him, whatsisface Hesselink, that dude from the other day with the mad name and the captain will pick himself. Has anyone ever managed a "mad names 11"?
