'Bez' is a striker or attacking midfield player, who joined the reds for an undisclosed fee in August 2005. He was the reigning Austrian young player of the year when he arrived at Anfield, and there were high hopes for him. His first season was a poor one however. It started well enough, with an impressive debut in the reserves, and a goal at the Kop end for the youth team in the FA Youth Cup.
He was then struck down by injury, and when he returned he struggled to find any form. He looks like he should be a really good player, as he's got that physique, balance and swagger that great players have, but he consistently failed to deliver on the field. The highlight was a fine headed goal in the reserves 2-0 win over the mancs in front of a hostile crowd of over 10,000 at Altrincham, whilst he also turned in an impressive performance against West Brom, but other than that he flattered to deceive.
His second season at the club saw him operate in a variety of roles, including central midfield. He's shown flashes of real talent, but they are far too fleeting and he's an incredibly frustrating player.
In March 2007 he was sent out on loan to struggling Luton Town, where he was a bit hit and miss again. He did manage a goal whilst he was there, and despite constantly flattering to deceive, the Liverpool coaching staff saw enough in him to give him a year extension to his contract which was due to run out in 2007.
'Bez' was included in the squad that faced Wrexham in a pre-season friendly at the Racecourse, and he gave the sizable crowd a glimpse of what he can do when he's in the mood by scoring a fine hat-trick. If you catch him on a good day he looks like a player, but those good days are nowhere near frequent enough and thats what he has to work on if he's to make the grade here or anywhere else.
