Paraguayan central defender who joined the reds in January 2007 after impressing on trial. Ronald had to wait a long time for the deal to go through due to the transfer window only opening in January. He had been training with the club for a few months, but was only able to play in training matches.
Initially it was going to be tough for him forcing his way into the reserve side, as he was competing with the likes of Paletta, Roque, Antwi and Hobbs for a place in the centre of defence. However, Antwi and Roque were both sent out on loan, whilst Paletta was only an occasional inclusion in Gary Ablett's squad, so Ronald got plenty of chances.
At times he looked a little shaky, especially against players with pace, but overall he did very well for a 17 year old in a new country adapting to a new kind of football.
The 2007-08 season was a good one for Ronald. After initially struggling to claim a place in the side, when he did force his way in he caught the eye with a string of consistently solid performances. Liverpool's defence was almost impossible to breach at times, at one point the resrrves had a run of nine consecutive clean sheets, and Ronald was a big part of that.
He's a big lad who is very strong in the air, but he's not the most cultured of defenders and there aren't too many frills about his game.
