African teenager who joined the reds in the summer of 2005. Following the reserve team's disappointing campaign in 2004/05, Rafa Benitez instructed his scouts to search for promising young players to put in the his second string. Godwin was snapped up from Real Zaragoza after impressing during a trial at the end of 2004/05.
A powerfully built lad, Godwin arrived at the club as a centre back who can also play in midfield, but he made his reserve team debut as a striker. A few appearances at right back followed, but it was when he finally got a run in his favoured position in the middle of the defence that Godwin came into his own.
He was also called into the squad for the FA Youth Cup, where he formed a formidable pairing with Jack Hobbs as the reds went on to lift the trophy. Godwin was outstanding all the way through the competition, not least in the 2nd leg of the final when he and Hobbs performed heroically to help the reds hold onto a 3-2 aggregate win.
Antwi's pace and strength make him a difficult opponent, and although his distribution isn't the best, he tends to keep it simple and doesn't give much away.
He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Accrington Stanley towards the end of the 2006-07 season, and spent 2007-08 on loan at Hartlepool. He will be spending this season over the water on loan at Tranmere.
