To say things got a little bit surreal at Anfield on Friday night, would be akin to describing Everton’s 10,816 attendance against PSV the following day as ‘not quite full’. What happened against Lazio was pretty damn bizarre. Xabi Alonso’s name was chanted over and over again in a show of support for player who has been made available for transfer by Rafa Benitez, whilst sections of the crowd openly challenged the manager’s judgement with chants against a player he has been chasing all summer. And if that wasn’t weird enough, we had a Liverpool player score a winning goal and then shush his own supporters.
