Substitute Ray Putterill slotted home a second half penalty to ensure Liverpool reserves came back from Teesside with a share of the spoils. The 18 year old replaced Jordy Brouwer midway through the second half, and shortly afterwards held his nerve from 12 yards after the referee had pointed to the spot, ironically for handball (he missed one for Boro's goal). The second half was all Liverpool, with chances galore being created. Boro's keeper made smart saves from Insua, Spearing and Lindfield, whereas Itandje was untroubled until the closing stages when he made a terrific stop.
* Tom Craddock is now being credited with Boro's goal.
