Liverpool's u18 side were brought back down to earth with a bang at the Academy this morning, losing 2-0 to Bolton Wanderers in a poor game. Coming just two days after a strength sapping win on a heavy pitch at Bramall lane, unsurprisingly John Owens rang the changes. Only Jay Spearing, Jimmy Ryan and Astrit Ajdarevic kept their places, and ironically they were comfortably the reds' best players in what was otherwise a disappointing performance.
Bolton went in front ten minutes before half time, when keeper Dave Roberts was lobbed from the edge of the box. Roberts then conceded another early in the 2nd half, when he could only parry a close range header into his own net.
Liverpool never looked like scoring throughout, despite the clever promptings in midfield of Ajdarevic who did well to get through his second ninety minutes in three days. He was exhausted at the end, but the run out will have done his fitness the world of good.
