Young midfielder Danny Guthrie is set to be offered a new contract after impressing Rafa Benitez with some promising performances for the first team. Telford lad Guthrie has made four senior appearances this season, including a start in the Champions League match in Istanbul, and has caught the eye with some mature displays in a variety of midfield roles. Guthrie, who scored a superb goal for the reserves last night at Blackburn, has recently been moved to train with the first team squad full time, and has made big strides this season.
He joined the reds’ academy as a 15 year old after being released by Manchester United, but he has certainly repaid the faith shown in him by Steve Heighway and his staff and will now be looking to get some more first team games under his belt in the coming months.
