The reds' youngsters continued their recent good form with a 3-1 win away at Crewe on Saturday. Michael Collins opened the scoring before a Ray Putterill (pictured) double put the result beyond doubt. Crewe hit a late consolation, but John Owens' side were good value for the win, which came just a few days after the youth cup over West Brom at the Hawthorns. Liverpool will face either Chelsea or Nottingham Forest in the next round.
Meanwhile, the u16s went down to a 1-0 defeat at home to Crewe, with the result oweing much to an injury sustained by keeper Martin Hansen. The young Dane left the field on a stretcher, but there was no other keeper in the squad, so midfielder Steve Irwin (crikey!) put the gloves on.
