Liverpool's youngsters came back to earth with a bump after Friday's heroic performance at St Mary's, as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Derby County. John Owens included several players in his starting line up who featured in the dramatic penalty shoot out victory over Southampton, but perhaps unsurprisingly the performance was very flat. Derby scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, and could have had more but for some good goalkeeping by Paul Lancaster.
The reds rallied after the break, but couldn't find the breakthrough. Michael Nardiello (pictured) had several decent headed chances during the game but couldn't convert any, whilst Jimmy Ryan fizzed a shot inches wide from 20 yards.
The result means the reds stay fifth in the table, whilst Derby went top of their league.
